We offer four-year Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs that combine computing theory and programming skills, both of which are essential for solving problems in many types of careers.

Majoring in computer science will train you to create software applications in fields ranging from gaming to Web and mobile apps and give you a strong understanding of computational theory and best practices so that you can adapt throughout your career to ever-evolving computing capabilities.

Biomedical engineering (BME), like any branch of engineering, uses scientific and mathematical principles to solve relevant problems facing the world. BME is focused on improving human health and encompasses many distinct areas such as:

• Biomedical optics
• Biomaterials
• Orthopedic biomechanics
• Biophysical interactions
• Drug delivery
• Biosensor development

BS in Health Sciences in Athletic Training degree program.  Areas of distinction within our curriculum include contemporary head, neck and spine injury evaluation and treatment, therapeutic interventions and manual therapy, and comprehensive orthopedic and non-orthopedic injury diagnosis and management.

Our Athletic Training Program prepares students to become unique healthcare providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses.  After completing our program, students become eligible to sit for the national Board of Certification (BOC) exam, which upon successful completion enables them to practice as certified athletic trainers under the supervision of a physician.

Political life is an expression of mankind's deepest human capacities.  Political Science at Duquesne covers critical issues such as:

• War, ethnic conflict, and terrorism;
• Elections, political parties, and policy making;
• Law and the judiciary;
• Poverty, human rights, and climate change;
• Freedom, justice, and equality. 

Political science courses help students develop skills in thinking, writing, analysis, and leadership crucial to success in our rapidly changing world. 

Accounting isn't just about money; it also involves data analysis, strategic thinking and forecasting. Ethical practice is also integral to a company's reputation management, and central to our accounting major. Whether it's in big business or small business, non-profit or government, accounting is a core operation, and well-trained students are sought after.

Students who choose accounting at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business aren't looking for any accounting program; they want the best. You will learn more than just the technical aspects of accounting; you will become a better critical thinker, communicator, and problem solver.

You will have access to a library of the latest versions of accounting software.  Proficiency in these tools will enhance your success - both as a student and as a professional - and increase your marketability.

The Finance major is comprised of courses in two broad areas:  Corporate Finance and Investments. 

In Corporate Finance, students learn to analyze business opportunities to identify those that create value.  Financial analysis boils down to sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for decision making in all aspects of business, and students majoring in Finance successfully pursue careers with major corporate and other organizations.

In Investments, students learn to structure portfolios of stocks, bonds and other financial assets that meet the objectives of institutional and individual investors.  The curriculum helps prepare students who wish to sit for Level I of the CFA exam series, and many graduates in Finance successfully pursue careers in asset management and wealth advising.

The M.F.A. in Media Arts and Technology is a multidisciplinary program of study that blends media arts, design, creative expression and technology to enhance communication and user experiences across all industries and disciplines. It provides opportunity for aspiring storytellers, designers, filmmakers, photographers, artists and technologists to exercise creativity through technology. The M.F.A. is 42 credit hours. Students choose one of the program tracks: 1) Creative and Strategic Media, 2) Interactive Design, 3) Photography and Film.

Developing student creative competence and design thinking skills is central to our teaching philosophy. In each program track, project-oriented classes focus on creative and designed projects such as literary works, films and documentaries, photography exhibits, interactive apps and websites, digital user experiences (UX), and public relations and advertising campaigns.

The study of History enriches all who undertake it.  It sits at the center of the liberal arts, for it is concerned with all areas of human endeavor—politics, economics, social arrangements, psychology, thought, and religion.

Our History Majors:

• Deepen their understanding of the United States of America and the world and how and why different cultures have developed as they have

Rhetoric explores professional and public leadership grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Students learn the history and practice of producing and interpreting oral and written arguments in the professional and public spheres. Rhetoric majors pursue careers in law, public policy advocacy, nonprofit administration, business, and countless other fields in a globalizing marketplace.
