Economics is a social science that employs logical reasoning to describe how people, firms and governments balance their desires with their limitations. Economics majors are successful in a wide variety of careers. Our graduates are prepared to work as research and financial analysts in large and small businesses, consulting firms and at all levels of government. The study of economics also provides an excellent foundation for many graduate programs.

Business today is global, subjected to the forces of culture, economy, geography and politics. What happens in other countries affects American-based corporations, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies. As the world becomes smaller, a degree in international business will prepare you to meet the professional challenges of doing business at home and abroad.

An international business degree from our program prepares you for managerial careers in the global marketplace. Anticipating the demands of the discipline, our international business program teaches you not simply how to conduct business, but also how to conduct business with an understanding of world markets and political and cultural sensitivity.

While focusing on international business concepts in the classroom, you are exposed to real-world affairs through activities with international businesses and organizations located within the Pittsburgh area. In addition, you have the opportunity to fulfill your international business study-abroad requirement at Duquesne's campus in Rome, its international study center at the National University of Ireland, and through partnerships with numerous university partners around the world.

This is an exciting major that combines the study of three languages. Students choosing this major should have extensive background in at least one of the languages selected for the degree. 

Students and graduates will be able to apply techniques of computer science to analyse, synthesize and evaluate solutions to practical, real-world problems. Students and graduates will demonstrate expertise in up-to-date practices concerning systems, networks, tools, algorithms, and advanced topics. Graduates will become self-sufficient learners of computer science. Students and graduates will exhibit knowledge of the ethics of computing and will act in an ethical and moral manner in their studies and their work.

Public History is history that happens outside of a textbook and the classroom. Public Historians interpret the past for the public in museums, national parks, historic houses, or on main streets. Public History programs give you skills to deal with different audiences, various materials, and multiple contexts. It is often called 'applied history', because it mixes deep historical knowledge with theory and practice.

Liberal Arts students may design a Liberal Arts major if they prefer not to choose a formal major course of study offered in a traditional discipline. A self-designed major allows for the election of a concentration in either the humanities or social sciences, or it may be built around a theme that brings together courses in both the humanities and social sciences.

In addition to their studies, our students maintain the highest standards in the areas of musicianship, pedagogy, and professionalism and work consistently with an extensive network of cooperating teachers in public school music settings (band, choir, orchestra, and general music) for field experiences that begin during the very first semester of the freshman year.

Our Health Sciences major will provide students with the skills needed to both conduct comprehensive health, wellness and fitness assessments, and develop programming to address the needs of clients, patients and populations.  Furthermore, our students will be equipped to assess the outcomes associated with these intervention strategies and prepared to implement changes accordingly.  

For those students who may be considering pursuit of a professional healthcare degree, our Health Sciences major will serve as a gateway designed to prepare students for graduate degree programs in Medicine, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies.

Students from our Health Sciences Program will have opportunities to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to factor prominently into a variety of healthcare arenas, including human performance, strength & conditioning, corporate wellness, exercise physiology, health education, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and community health & wellness.
