We offer four-year Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs that combine computing theory and programming skills, both of which are essential for solving problems in many types of careers.

Majoring in computer science will train you to create software applications in fields ranging from gaming to Web and mobile apps and give you a strong understanding of computational theory and best practices so that you can adapt throughout your career to ever-evolving computing capabilities.

The M.A. degree program includes a total of ten courses (30 credits), one required course plus nine courses selected from the general Healthcare Ethics courses. The required course is a general graduate-level introduction to ethics. The nine HCE courses will be chosen by the student with advisement according to the student's interest.

Students and graduates will be able to apply techniques of computer science to analyse, synthesize and evaluate solutions to practical, real-world problems. Students and graduates will demonstrate expertise in up-to-date practices concerning systems, networks, tools, algorithms, and advanced topics. Graduates will become self-sufficient learners of computer science. Students and graduates will exhibit knowledge of the ethics of computing and will act in an ethical and moral manner in their studies and their work.

Grounded in the department's established commitment to the philosophical student of communication, the Master of Arts emphasis in Rhetoric & Philosophy of Communication (36 credits) provides students with a traditional liberal arts education for leadership in academia, law, and the marketplace. This program offers fundamental courses for a doctoral degree or enhancement of a liberal arts foundation in communication.

Our Health Sciences major will provide students with the skills needed to both conduct comprehensive health, wellness and fitness assessments, and develop programming to address the needs of clients, patients and populations.  Furthermore, our students will be equipped to assess the outcomes associated with these intervention strategies and prepared to implement changes accordingly.  

For those students who may be considering pursuit of a professional healthcare degree, our Health Sciences major will serve as a gateway designed to prepare students for graduate degree programs in Medicine, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies.

Students from our Health Sciences Program will have opportunities to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to factor prominently into a variety of healthcare arenas, including human performance, strength & conditioning, corporate wellness, exercise physiology, health education, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and community health & wellness.  

The Duquesne University Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program was the first five-year, entry-level Master's degree program in the nation.

Our graduates become health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. They provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, in primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings.

Program Structure

"Entry level" students come into Duquesne University as freshmen, complete the five year curriculum, and earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree.

• The rigorous 3-year pre-professional curriculum is comprised of core curriculum requirements and pre-requisites for the accredited phase.
• Pre-requisite courses provide the strong science background necessary for academic success as an accredited phase student.
• Pre-professional phase students meet with PA program faculty on a regular basis and have numerous opportunities to learn more about the program and the PA profession.

The Computer Systems Technology (CST) Program is an innovative online degree program that offers working professionals, military personnel, and other motivated students an opportunity to complete their Baccalaureate coursework in the field of computing technology. The Bachelor of Science in CST curriculum offers a blend of computer systems and information technology that creates a well-rounded professional who knows how to think analytically, assess and diagnose organizational problems, and select the best solution. As a result, CST graduates will be prepared to address the complexities of real-world technology issues, and to adapt to future developments in this fast-paced and dynamic field.

In this program you will learn how to evaluate the cyber-security needs of an organisation, how to assess and develop risk management policies in order to protect well the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of an organisation's information and assets, how to support and secure information and assets as needed to support an organisation's mission, how to research, learn, and apply new cyber-security technology in order to keep skills current and how to apply these skills in a professional manner, including documenting their work, communicating clearly and appropriately, and following appropriate ethical and professional standards of conduct.

Additionally, the Department offers a selection of courses for non-science majors carefully designed to meet University Core science requirements, in a range of topics from the traditional to the fun-filled and even the exotic.

Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who enjoy helping students experience the thrill of learning about nature first-hand. The Department pursues a vigorous research program in experimental condensed matter, experimental atomic physics and experimental nuclear physics, all areas open to undergraduate involvement.
