Economics is a social science that employs logical reasoning to describe how people, firms and governments balance their desires with their limitations. While pursuing a B.A. in economics at Duquesne, you will learn what motivates people and how often-conflicting values affect behavior in the marketplace.From individuals to groups and corporations to governments, people behave differently, and a well-trained student of economics accurately can analyse those differences and their effects. Economics majors are successful in a wide variety of careers. Our graduates are prepared to work as research and financial analysts in large and small businesses, consulting firms and at all levels of government. The study of economics also provides an excellent foundation for many graduate programs.

Course work in these areas provides students with a thorough grounding in the fundamental skills and practices of public relations and advertising along with a theoretical understanding of their cultural importance as the primary means of persuasion in modern life. Students explore the differences, similarities and integration of public relations and advertising, a critical evaluation of industry content, and hands-on production skills. As students move through the program, they can gain professional experience with on-campus and metro-area media and agencies.

Working with a departmental mentor, students may emphasize either public relations or advertising or choose an integrated approach to both.

Throughout the program, students will be able to:

• Create a wide variety of advertisements for magazines, newspapers and TV.
• Manage advertising and public relations campaigns.
• Create campaigns for nonprofit institutions.
• Plan events.
• Understand and apply international advertising and public relations media needs.
• Account for cultural differences and how they impact advertising or public relations.

Communication Studies draws from the richness of the communication discipline to allow students to design programs of study that meet their unique interests and professional goals. Students can develop competencies in a number of areas, including intercultural and interpersonal communication, organizational communication, argumentation, event planning, persuasion, professional communication, visual communication, rhetoric and popular culture, and community relations. Communication Studies majors pursue careers in family businesses and for-profit and non-profit organizations or graduate school in communication, law, public policy, healthy policy and administration, or business.

The study of History enriches all who undertake it.  It sits at the center of the liberal arts, for it is concerned with all areas of human endeavor—politics, economics, social arrangements, psychology, thought, and religion.

Students and graduates will be able to apply techniques of computer science to analyse, synthesize and evaluate solutions to practical, real-world problems. Students and graduates will demonstrate expertise in up-to-date practices concerning systems, networks, tools, algorithms, and advanced topics. The Data Science B.S. program at Duquesne University will prepare you to provide practical solutions to problems involving small data sets to massive amounts of data. This incorporates the entire data science pipeline, including problem formulation, data collection, high powered computing, statistical analyses, and meaningful interpretation

Integrated Marketing Communication majors pursue careers in advertising and public relations agencies, consulting firms, and positions requiring strategic communication planning and strategy.
