Overview
The AA pathway in Anthropology is for students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in anthropology or a related field. Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Cybersecurity Operations prepares students for a career as a member of a Security Operations Center (SOC). Students will learn how to become the first line of defense by monitoring, detecting, and analyzing security breaches. They will also learn to work with other team members to respond and mitigate security type events.

Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Technician
If you are a licensed or licensure-eligible paramedic, or have been accepted into the paramedic program, the emergency medical services AS degree program offers you an opportunity to specialize in education, management or technology.

Course work combines classroom lecture, practical skills laboratory and actual patient clinical experiences. The lecture portion (seven credit hours) covers the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician as well as skills required by the state. The practical skills laboratory portion (three credit hours) includes application practice and performance testing in simulated patient care situations. The clinical portion (two credit hour) provides actual patient care during transport to a hospital and in the hospital setting.

Associate of Arts in Engineering Pathway
The engineering AA pathway is for students who wish to pursue Bachelor's degrees in electrical, mechanical, civil, computer science, aerospace, nuclear, agricultural, industrial, and environmental engineering. Options in surveying and mapping, and materials design and testing are also available.
Careers include positions in the areas of design, testing, research, architecture, electronics, robotics, manufacturing, sales, construction management, and technical writing. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

Associate of Science in Culinary Management
The culinary management AS degree teaches you the skills necessary to work as a cook or chef, and prepares you for commercial and institutional management positions in the culinary industry. If you're previously or currently employed in these occupations, this program offers supplemental training.
The coursework includes sanitation and safety; maintenance and operation of equipment; recognition and identification of foods; proper storage of equipment; methods of preparation; usage of foods; methods of cooking; garde manger; performing different types of food services; nutrition; baking; communication skills; math skills; computer applications; supervision management; professionalism; culinary organization; food and beverage purchasing; dining room management; and beverage management. Students also receive training in communications, leadership, human relations, finance, employability skills, sanitation and safety, and efficient work practices.
Accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation, this program provides hands-on experiences in a simulated job environment with industry equipment, supplies and standards.

Associate of Science in Culinary and Dietetic Management
The Culinary and Dietetic Management AS degree at Hillsborough Community College offers student the education, training, and experience to competently perform the responsibilities of a dietary manager and has proven this by passing the nationally recognized CDM Credentialing Exam and fulfilling the requirements needed to maintain certified status. This program has both classroom and field experience components. The field experience component consists of 2 practicums of 75 hours each, totaling 150 hours of field experience. Each field experience has a qualified preceptor on site. Graduates are eligible to apply for the CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) Credentialing Exam and ANFP Professional membership.

Associate of Arts in History Pathway
This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as history, humanities, education, pre-law, political science, museum studies, journalism, library science, archeology/classics or international studies programs. This pathway is broadly designed to allow students to cater the major to their own interests, however, students are encouraged to meet with a full-time history faculty member to discuss their program interests in their first semester at HCC.
Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first?time?in?college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. Consult an academic advisor with questions related to pathways and course planning.
