Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The HCC Philosophy Associate in Arts degree pathway is a for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in philosophy at a college or university. The associate degree provides students with the foundational knowledge required to enhance their understanding of philosophy as a critical inquiry of nature and human society, to analyze and evaluate major paradigms in philosophy from historical and contemporary perspectives, to sharpen critical thinking and argumentative skills, and to prepare students to transfer to a university.

This degree offers students a fundamental understanding of the main fields of philosophy, including logic, ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion while exposing students to a broad spectrum of philosophical theories. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in Philosophy.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. The computer science engineering AA pathway degree is for students who want to pursue a Bachelor's degree in computer and information engineering sciences. Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Technician

If you are a licensed or licensure-eligible paramedic, or have been accepted into the paramedic program, the emergency medical services AS degree program offers you an opportunity to specialize in education, management or technology.

Course work combines classroom lecture, practical skills laboratory and actual patient clinical experiences. The lecture portion (seven credit hours) covers the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician as well as skills required by the state. The practical skills laboratory portion (three credit hours) includes application practice and performance testing in simulated patient care situations. The clinical portion (two credit hour) provides actual patient care during transport to a hospital and in the hospital setting.

Associate of Science in Clinical Research Professional

The clinical research professional AS degree prepares you to become an integral member of a clinical trials team. With the many advances in healthcare delivery, there's a growing need for trained healthcare professionals, especially in clinical research.

This new HCC program builds fundamental skills in adherence to IRB guidelines; safety for clinical research participants; coordination of clinical treatment and study visits; screening, recruitment, and enrollment of study participants; and clinical trial compliance with Federal and State regulatory laws. Clinical research professional training qualifies you to work in biological, pharmaceutical, or social and behavioral clinical research settings.

Coursework includes an in-depth study of drug development, federal regulations, good clinical practices, and the clinical research process. Supervised fieldwork provides skills application in protocol design, participant recruitment, regulatory compliance, accountability for drugs and devices, and auditing documentation in clinical research studies.

The health navigator AS degree trains you for the important roles of health navigator, patient navigator or community health worker.

As a health navigator, you assist the elderly and those who have limited health literacy with accessing and maximizing benefits from community services, clinical care, and health insurance. You may also facilitate access to care and follow-up for patients with complex health issues such as cancer or HIV. Health navigators assist with identifying and enrolling patients in various health insurance plans including ACA Exchanges, Medicaid, Medicare, and disability services.

The culinary management AS degree teaches you the skills necessary to work as a cook or chef, and prepares you for commercial and institutional management positions in the culinary industry. If you're previously or currently employed in these occupations, this program offers supplemental training.

The coursework includes sanitation and safety; maintenance and operation of equipment; recognition and identification of foods; proper storage of equipment; methods of preparation; usage of foods; methods of cooking; garde manger; performing different types of food services; nutrition; baking; communication skills; math skills; computer applications; supervision management; professionalism; culinary organization; food and beverage purchasing; dining room management; and beverage management. Associate of Science in Cardiac Catheterization

Cardiac Catheterization Technologists work alongside physicians to diagnose and treat diseases of the heart and blood vessels using X-ray imaging. These technologists are imaging specialists who also train to act as surgical assistants and circulators during cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures.

Their duties include assessment and care of the patient during the invasive procedure, surgically scrubbing to assist physician, administration of medication under the physician’s supervision, controlling procedural instruments and imaging technologies, and documenting/recording the procedural activities. These specialists are trained in invasive diagnostic cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures, cardiac and vascular invasive interventions, emergency cardiac care, structural heart repair, and invasive cardiac electrophysiology.
