Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Applicants and potential students applying to the AS degree will have earned an Advanced Technical Diploma (ATD) in medical laboratory technician (or equivalent) with 40 credit hours that transfer from the technical college. Students will earn 36 credit hours at Hillsborough Community College to complete the AS degree.

Associate of Arts in Pharmacy Pathway

The pharmacy AA pathway degree is for students who want to pursue Bachelor's degrees in pharmacy. Pharmacists dispense medications prescribed by physicians as well as educate physicians and the public about proper drug usage. This pathway provides the courses and guiding principles to increase your chances for admission to pharmacy school.

This curriculum is from the current college catalog and is meant to provide prospective students an example of courses taken in this degree/certificate.  It is not intended to be used for graduation requirements.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. Consult an academic advisor with questions related to pathways and course planning.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in Marketing, which includes careers that are focused upon attracting and retaining customers in public and private sectors.

Students will acquire a comprehensive set of 21st Century workforce skills that prepare them for working in either their own start?ups or large established companies across a variety of industries. Students who complete this degree are eligible for applying for HCC’s Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Seed Fund.

This degree provides students with the opportunity to learn entrepreneurial skills including ideation, business and financial modeling, effectuation, rapid prototyping, and design thinking. This hands-on, skills-based program will prepare students for careers in television, radio, and media production for the Internet.  Students will learn to produce music videos, talk shows, sports programs, music shows, concerts, and news shows for television, radio and the Internet using professional video cameras, high-quality nonlinear video editing equipment, and professional audio editing software.  Students can gain valuable experience by broadcasting on the college’s radio station and the educational TV cable channel.

Echocardiography uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the human heart. Our AS degree prepares you to perform diagnostic studies on patients in order to quantify cardiac disease, including coronary arteriography, hemodynamic monitoring and analysis, and electrophysiology studies. Graduates must pass national registry examinations to become certified echocardiography technologists.

Cybersecurity Operations prepares students for a career as a member of a Security Operations Center (SOC). Students will learn how to become the first line of defense by monitoring, detecting, and analyzing security breaches. They will also learn to  work with other team members to respond and mitigate security type events.

Associate of Science in Cardiac Catheterization

Cardiac Catheterization Technologists work alongside physicians to diagnose and treat diseases of the heart and blood vessels using X-ray imaging. These technologists are imaging specialists who also train to act as surgical assistants and circulators during cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures.

Their duties include assessment and care of the patient during the invasive procedure, surgically scrubbing to assist physician, administration of medication under the physician’s supervision, controlling procedural instruments and imaging technologies, and documenting/recording the procedural activities. These specialists are trained in invasive diagnostic cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures, cardiac and vascular invasive interventions, emergency cardiac care, structural heart repair, and invasive cardiac electrophysiology.
