The HCC Philosophy Associate in Arts degree pathway is a for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in philosophy at a college or university. The associate degree provides students with the foundational knowledge required to enhance their understanding of philosophy as a critical inquiry of nature and human society, to analyze and evaluate major paradigms in philosophy from historical and contemporary perspectives, to sharpen critical thinking and argumentative skills, and to prepare students to transfer to a university.

This degree offers students a fundamental understanding of the main fields of philosophy, including logic, ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion while exposing students to a broad spectrum of philosophical theories. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in Philosophy.

For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. The HCC Sociology Associate in Arts degree pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in sociology or a related degree at a university. Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior in society. Sociology associate students will examine a wide range of human interactions, including marriage and family, crime and deviance, culture and social change, group processes and interactions having to do with class, race and gender; diversity and globalization, social stratification and mobility and social movements.

Program courses will help develop the student’s ability to examine the broader connections between personal life, public issues and social structure. Digital forensics (sometimes known as digital forensic science) is a branch of forensic science encompassing the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices, often in relation to computer crime.

The digital forensics AS degree prepares you for a career in security concepts and computer forensics investigations. Develop proficiency in basic and advanced security concepts, computer forensics investigations, and other skills related to this field.

The electronics engineering technology AS degree program prepares you for an entry-level position as an electronics engineering technician who assists engineers in planning, research, development and design.

The health navigator AS degree trains you for the important roles of health navigator, patient navigator or community health worker.

As a health navigator, you assist the elderly and those who have limited health literacy with accessing and maximizing benefits from community services, clinical care, and health insurance. You may also facilitate access to care and follow-up for patients with complex health issues such as cancer or HIV. Health navigators assist with identifying and enrolling patients in various health insurance plans including ACA Exchanges, Medicaid, Medicare, and disability services.

Health navigators are liaisons between patients, caregivers, and health care providers; they are advocates within a complex health care system to improve patient care.

The coursework includes the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or related fields.
