Overview
The major in Environmental Sciences is based in the physical and biological sciences, but also includes course work in selected areas of the social sciences. The major leads to a Bachelor of Science degree, and may be adopted by students in either the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This curriculum offers a comprehensive approach to the study of environmental problems, including not only a rigorous scientific background, but also detailed analyses of the social and economic implications of environmental issues. The complexity and interdisciplinary nature of environmental science is reflected in the core requirements of the major. These courses, assembled from several different academic departments representing two colleges, provide both breadth and depth, preparing students for careers that deal with environmental issues and for graduate study in environmental sciences and related fields.

The composition degree complements the jazz program, which focuses on jazz composition and arranging.
Student composers will have access to student performers and performance opportunities for their music through existing large and small ensembles. They will also be exposed to major performing artists and ensembles that visit the University of Connecticut under the presentation of the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. Bachelor of Science in Geography
Geography is a multidimensional discipline that analyzes the interactions between people and their environments. Our geographers teach courses and engage in research on a wide range of relevant and timely topics such as urban sprawl, the nature and impact of migration, globalization of the economy and international trade, the spatial prevalence of disease, regional development, global climatic change, environmental degradation and restoration, watershed and landscape change, and the analysis and display of spatial data using geographic information systems (GIS) technology.
Coursework in geography enables graduates to find employment in the private and public sectors while providing both the regional and global perspective required of informed citizens. B.A. students have gone on to work as urban and regional planners, marketing specialists, environmental program managers, location analysts, and transportation planners.
The B.S. degree prepares students to pursue a technologically oriented career as geographic information systems specialists. Students with an undergraduate degree in geography are also prepared to move on to graduate school to pursue M.A. and Ph.D. degrees that enable them to teach at the college level or to secure higher ranking positions in the public and private sectors.

Bachelor of Arts in French
Students can enter the Program either from the beginning classes of our language program or, if they already have enough French, move right into upper-level courses. The major requires the completion of 30 credits at the 3000 level. (Major.doc)
Our program gives our majors a choice of specialization: French Cultural and Literary Studies or French Studies for the Global Community.
Track I, French Studies for the Global Community, is built on the premise that, in the era of globalization, the role of the economy permeates all aspects of contemporary cultural and political life. It is posited on the notion that as culture becomes more global, it reaches across diverse cultures and languages. This is one of the reasons why translation and the theory of translation are particularly crucial components of this tract, as necessary complement to the studies of business, media, and world culture generally.
Track II, French Cultural and Literary Studies, focuses on literature in new ways, in keeping with recent reflection on the way literature actually functions in society. Controversial issues that have shaped the debates in French culture include sexuality, gender, race, the value of popular culture, the role of film, and video, electronic writing, and the paradoxes of globalization, among others. The pleasure of reading and writing about literature is an essential feature of this track, but the understanding of literature is enhanced when viewing it within a larger sociopolitical and cultural context.

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies
The Theatre Studies BA is similar to most of UConn's liberal arts degrees in students take approximately 40% of their college credits within their major field. On the introductory, 1000 course level, BA students must take the same core courses required of all Dramatic Arts majors. In addition, BA students elect a further 18 credits of courses in dramatic arts at the 3000-4000 level. The remaining 60% of the BA curriculum consists mainly of liberal arts courses, including the University's broad-ranging General Education Requirements and the election of 12 credits at the 3000-4000 level in a related group of courses outside the department.
Thanks to its special combination of academic studies in theatre and production experience through the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, the BA in Theatre Studies provides an excellent foundation for graduate work in theatre or other academic fields, as well as a foundation for professional careers in directing, playwriting, dramatic criticism, stage management, theatre management, and a host of other related fields within the theatre, film, and television industries.
The following is a list of the dramatic arts courses you will take in order to complete your BA in Theatre Studies. “Related” courses are non-Dramatic Arts courses.

Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights
The field of concentration in Human Rights gives students an understanding of the legal instruments, norms, and institutions that constitute contemporary human rights law, as well as the social movements, cultural practices, and literary and artistic representations that have and continue to imagine the human rights ethic in various ways. In recent years, the human rights dimensions of many of the most vexing and pertinent issues at the global, national, and local level have gained prominence – including the problems of environmental deterioration, economic inequality, and ethnic and religious conflict. Students who major in Human Rights will be better equipped not only to understand the complex nature of these and other issues, but also to develop and pursue novel approaches toward a better world. In addition to studying the manifold histories, theories, and practices of human rights in a systematic and comprehensive manner, students majoring in Human Rights will also develop more specialized methodological and topical expertise in a second discipline.
To complete the Major in Human Rights, students are required to complete an additional, primary major offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or an additional degree program offered in another University School or College. For students completing a double major within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, a minimum of 48 credits without overlap is required to earn both majors and students will receive one degree appropriate to their primary major.
