An undergraduate degree in Allied Health Sciences prepares you for immediate employment in a variety of health fields including case management/patient care coordination, health education, medical billing and account management, health marketing and sales, laboratory research, health insurance administration. Your degree will also prepare you for admission to graduate and/or professional schools and programs that require a bachelor's degree (e.g. medical school, dental school, physician assistant, physical therapy, public health, health promotion sciences, etc.). You'll choose a standard plan (most flexible) or one of four concentration areas and tailor your plan of study to your specific goals and professional interests.

Your assigned academic advisor will work with you to develop a plan of study that includes university general education requirements and coursework covering a broad range of health and healthcare topics that also fulfill graduate health program admission requirements. Specific requirements will vary based on your intended concentration and career path. Courses are available in a broad range of disciplines including biostatistics, human physiology, immunology, environmental health, ergonomics, public health, health management and administration, healthcare systems, counseling and teaching, research methods, human genetics, nutrition, law and ethics, and more.

Programs in the Department of Chemistry may lead to either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, the American Chemical Society (ACS) certifies two more rigorous Bachelor of Science options.

The B.A. degree is appropriate for students who are interested in chemistry but do not wish to pursue a career as a laboratory scientist. The B.S. degrees prepare students to pursue graduate study in Chemistry or to find employment in technologically oriented industries.

The Department offers both Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics-Statistics, and Mathematics-Actuarial Science, and Mathematics-Actuarial Science-Finance, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics-Physics. The Bachelor of Science program provides in-depth training in Mathematics as preparation for graduate study or for participation in scientific and engineering teams in government, industry, or research laboratories. The Bachelor of Arts degree is designed to provide training in contemporary mathematics without the depth and concentrated specialization required for the Bachelor of Science program. The Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) program concentrates its research, instruction, and community outreach on a multidisciplinary understanding of a healthy development and wellbeing of individuals and families over the lifespan, interactions and processes within families, and individuals and families in societal and cultural contexts. The Center for Real Estate offers scholarship opportunities, resume book and job opportunities, and industry and student networking through the Real Estate Society field trips. The Center functions as an academic partner to the real estate industry. Many UConn Real Estate students begin their professional careers as interns, placed with the Center's assistance. Real estate professionals and alumni support the Center by sponsoring events and providing scholarships. Linguistics and Philosophy
For the Linguistics and Philosophy joint major, required linguistics courses are LING 3410Q, either LING 3000Q or 3110, and at least two additional LING courses at the 2000 level or above; and required philosophy courses are PHIL 3241 and at least three additional PHIL courses at the 2000 level or above. For this joint major, exit requirements for information literacy will be satisfied by passing LING 3000Q or 3110. The exit requirement for writing in the major will be satisfied by passing any W course in LING or PHIL at the 2000-level or above that has been approved by the student’s advisor for inclusion in the plan of study.

The Department of Psychological Sciences recommends that its majors take a broad selection of Psychological Science courses and electives to obtain a well-rounded introduction to the science. The Department encourages students to participate in its research activities, including laboratory courses, research seminars, and independent study experiences.

A maximum of seven 2000-level or above transfer credits in psychology may count toward the major upon approval of the transfer coordinator in the Department of Psychological Sciences. Up to three credits of PSYC 3889 or 3899 can be used, and PSYC 3880 cannot be used.

The undergraduate program of study is designed with sufficient breadth and depth to enable our graduates to work successfully in industry or government, or to continue studies in graduate school.

The electrical engineering curriculum provides a firm foundation in fundamentals, while also giving students exposure to current technologies for design and implementation. It strives for a balance between theory, laboratory and design experience. In the first two years of study, students are given a broad foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer programming, applied mechanics, communication skills and humanities. Introductory courses in computer science and electric circuit analysis are also taken in the sophomore year. In the final two years, students build upon their earlier course work, taking a set of required EE courses intended to provide the core knowledge expected of every electrical engineer.

A student in consultation with his or her advisor chooses a number of electrical engineering professional elective courses, and various elective courses in the humanities and social sciences. The professional elective courses taken give the student expertise in an area of specialization in electrical engineering, or allow him or her to explore topics of individual interest. Areas of specialization in electrical engineering include: biomedical engineering, electronic circuits and instrumentation, microelectronics, systems, and telecommunications. Biomedical engineers apply engineering methods, science and technology to problems in medicine and biology. Biomedical Engineering is a growing field that will continue to have a significant impact on health care. In fact, many feel that biomedical engineering will be the technological area with the most impact on people’s lives in the 21st century. A minor in Biomedical engineering is offered for students at the University of Connecticut who wish to expand their knowledge in the field. Biomedical engineering involves learning about biology in new ways and developing new tools to diagnose and treat disease and to repair or replace diseased organs.

Many students select biomedical engineering to be of service to people and for the excitement of working in a health field. Additionally, biomedical engineering provides excellent preparation for entrance into medical school. Biomedical engineering is interdisciplinary; that is, biomedical engineers often work with other medical health care professionals as members of a team. Exciting advances in medicine, such as the artificial hearts, pacemakers, medical imaging techniques, lasers, prosthetic implants, life support systems, and devices that help the paralyzed walk, have been the result of team efforts by biomedical engineers and other professionals. In addition, bioengineers have developed new processes for manufacturing products for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, an example being humulin, or human insulin, the first product based on recombinant DNA technology

The B.A. in American Sign Language allows students to pursue one of two tracks: American Sign Language Literature and Deaf Cultural Studies or Interpreting American Sign Language and English. ASL 1101-104 are prerequisites and the credits do not count towards the major.
