This B.S. program in Physiology and Neurobiology is intended to provide students with a foundational understanding of body and brain functions at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels by synthesizing current and emerging ideas from research and medical science. Course offerings span comparative and model system physiology, nervous system function and development, endocrinology, cardiorespiratory physiology, and associated diseases. Additionally, we also offer coursework and independent study based undergraduate research opportunities.

The Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance is ideal for students interested in pursuing an intensive, conservatory-like undergraduate career in performance. Students are given various and unique opportunities to hone their craft. In addition to advanced applied study, this program provides foundational study in music theory, history, instrumental pedagogy, and conducting, among other areas. With the Bachelor of Music degree comes frequent opportunities to perform, including but not limited to: required half and whole degree recitals, solo performances in convocation, performance in master classes, ensemble performances, and chamber music.

The Department offers both Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics-Statistics, and Mathematics-Actuarial Science, and Mathematics-Actuarial Science-Finance, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics-Physics. The Bachelor of Science program provides in-depth training in Mathematics as preparation for graduate study or for participation in scientific and engineering teams in government, industry, or research laboratories. The Bachelor of Arts degree is designed to provide training in contemporary mathematics without the depth and concentrated specialization required for the Bachelor of Science program. The Exercise Science (BS) major provides a comprehensive understanding of exercise, human performance, and healthy living. This major prepares graduates for further study of exercise science as well as healthcare professions including medicine, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, and athletic training. Students complete coursework in general education, kinesiology, cognate areas (outside, but supportive of, Exercise Science), with an emphasis on basic science courses.

The curriculum is dedicated to preparing students both professionally and academically for their future career. A high degree of excellence is expected in all aspects of career development, including practical and academic success.

Incoming Freshman students are directly admitted to the Exercise Science program. Admission is highly competitive; students with strong math and science preparation will be given preference.

The program in philosophy introduces students to basic philosophical issues and acquaints them with techniques of philosophical inquiry. The program addresses problems in ethics, social and political philosophy, metaphysics, theory of knowledge, philosophy of science, logic, philosophy of religion, and aesthetics from both historical and contemporary perspectives.

The Environmental Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to understand the interactions between human society and the environment. Understanding the ethical and cultural dimensions of our relationship with the environment, as well as the challenges of protecting it, requires insights from multiple perspectives, including the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. Core courses in the major ensure familiarity with basic principles from these three areas. With this shared core of knowledge, majors will focus their studies on an area of special interest, taking electives and related courses that allow greater specialization. Among the many possibilities are environmental sustainability, issues concerning public policy and environmental justice, and the literary and philosophical legacy of human encounters with the non-human world. A capstone course will allow each student to research a distinct perspective on a contemporary environmental issue. A major in Environmental Studies might lead to a career in a variety of fields, including public policy, environmental education, eco-tourism, marketing or consulting, journalism, or advocacy.

The major leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) or the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR). The student’s choice of colleges should be made in consultation with faculty and advisors based upon the student’s interests and career goals.

The Management major is focused on the development of the necessary skills to lead others, work well in teams, think entrepreneurially, and develop a strategic vision. Most of the complex problems we face in the business world today, whether they impact business or society at large, require the coordination of individuals, teams, and organizations to arrive at a solution. In management we strive to have our students ready to solve today’s and tomorrow’s complex business problems.

The Department of Management offers two core courses; managerial and interpersonal behaviors (MGMT 3101) and strategic management (MGMT 4900) along with elective courses in international business, entrepreneurship, management consulting, venture consulting, negotiations, managing a diverse workforce, and managing human capital. Students may follow the entrepreneurship concentration curriculum, or choose to pursue an area of emphasis in managing consulting, human capital management, or international business.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program in Art & Design is designed to provide an enriched educational environment that develops and nurtures the full range of capabilities necessary for a career in the visual arts. Skills addressed include: a mastery of requisite technical skills, the use of technology across the curriculum, experience in critical and creative problem solving, visual literacy, knowledge of historical modes of expression in the visual arts, and mastery of written modes of expression.

After Foundations courses, students declare a concentration in which to focus their advanced studies. Once a concentration is declared students follow that concentration's prescribed Plan of Study.
