Anthropology is the study of the human being: anthropo. Our cultural and biological diversity has developed over human history. In this discipline, we study how humans have come to be who and what we are today- our physical development and the effects of nutrition and diseases, the ways we organize ourselves in groups, the beliefs and values shared within and across cultures, the ways we mark our identity with the languages we speak.

The Master of Information Systems program at Cleveland State University is a specialized degree program designed to prepare students for careers as information professionals. Housed within the Monte Ahuja College of Business, the coursework combines a blend of technology and management-oriented courses designed to prepare the next generation of technology managers to lead enterprises in innovative ways. Specializations within the program allow students to build specific skill sets in areas such as: information security, information technology management and business analytics.

The School of Communication offers a Journalism and Promotional Communication (JPC) major with the two different sequences that provides specialization in journalism and promotional communication.

Journalism Sequence Students in the journalism sequence learn knowledge and skills essential to succeed in a digital newsroom, including hands-on training in digital tools used in reporting, writing, data analysis, multimedia content production, and audience engagement via social media. The theory courses focus on learning and understanding the relationship among news media, society, politics and economy. Promotional Communication Sequence: Promotional Communication students develop expertise in a wide range of strategic communication techniques. Our majors are well-versed in diverse communication specialties including advertising, public relations, visual communication, digital metrics, social media and content marketing. They learn social scientific theories that inform persuasion strategies and campaigns.

The ability to adapt and thrive in diverse business environments is more crucial than ever before in today’s increasingly interdependent global economy.

Studying international business provides students an opportunity to learn and think about the world of business on a global scale. Students gain knowledge and skills required for international business careers while developing an understanding of the political, cultural and regulatory environments that shape international business and trade. International business students learn necessary accounting, finance, supply chain, marketing and management skills that prepare them to succeed in managing multi-national corporations as well as large national firms, medium- and small-sized business expand into international markets.

The Environmental Studies program is designed for students who are interested in working in environmental planning and analysis for business, industry or government. The program also provides an educational foundation for students who want to pursue an advanced degree in law or business.

Students examine major issues dealing with sustainable development, air and water pollution and hazardous substances. Groundwater protection, wetlands, solid waste disposal, pollution prevention, toxic land contamination, and the treatment of wastewater are some of the many topics addressed.

Cleveland State University's Master of Science in Engineering Mechanics program objective is to train students in the analytical and computational methods of structural mechanics, the analysis of the mechanical behavior of solids, the fundamentals of material science, and the processing of materials. Recent advances in computational solid mechanics with computer-based algorithms have revolutionized the ability to simulate intelligently both linear and nonlinear structural phenomena. The engineering of advanced materials requires expertise ranging from stress analysis to materials science. Due to this diversity, the program is interdisciplinary in nature with contributions from the Chemical, Civil and Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering graduate programs. It also prepares students for continued study in the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering program.

Two areas of specialization are available:

• Structural Mechanics
• Mechanics and Materials

The Structural Mechanics track considers analytical and computational approaches to mechanics and materials. It emphasizes numerical formulations and computer simulations of basic structural and material phenomena from a stress/strain viewpoint. The Mechanics and Materials track concentrates on the material science aspects of materials, including the laboratory testing and development and investigation of new engineered materials. All students must complete a common set of core courses specified.

Finance is concerned with the process, institutions, markets,and instruments involved with the transfer of money among individuals, businesses and governments. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance introduces students to the theories, concepts, practices and advances in financial analysis and financial management.

Students graduating with a major in Finance can qualify for positions in the financial departments of industrial and commercial enterprises, banks, savings and loan associations, real estate firms, insurance companies, other financial institutions and government and public agencies.

Our students enjoy a high rate of employment in public or private corporations, not-for-profit organizations, and government. Finance majors typically embark on careers in asset management, commercial banking, corporate finance, financial planning, investments, insurance, real estate, or risk management.

The Mechanical Engineering curriculum prepares students for a wide variety of technical and professional fields having their roots in mechanical engineering - areas as diverse as aeronautics, aerospace, power generation, energy conversion and conservation, transportation, manufacturing, product design, robotics and controls, and others. Furthermore, because of the breadth of the mechanical engineering curriculum, graduates have the adaptability and flexibility to become part of the newest and most exciting technologies. Additionally, graduates of the program may use their educational background as preparation for a career in research and development, business, management, law, etc., in combination with suitable graduate education.

The Nonprofit Administration major is designed for students aspiring to enter the fields of nonprofit management and human services and for those currently employed in these areas. It provides management skills and training directed toward mobilizing community assets and capacity building.

The Nonprofit Administration Major is designed to:

• Develop leadership skills necessary to create positive social change.
• Prepare students to engage and manage volunteers and professionals.
• Teach strategies for the analysis of complex issues affecting nonprofit organizations.

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering program integrates theory and applications. Courses are typically scheduled in the late afternoon and early evening to serve the needs of both full-time and part-time students. The program is suitable for students planning to continue their studies at the doctoral level, as well as those who do not plan formal studies beyond the master's degree. Each student plans a program of study in consultation with an advisor appointed by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The program includes required courses and an integrated selection of courses in the student's field of interest. The following areas of specialization are offered for graduate study and research:
