The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics has a three fold thrust: to ensure that all students acquire a solid background in the basics of analysis, algebra, and discrete mathematics; to ensure that students have a breadth of knowledge; and to ensure the flexibility of choice that allows students to tailor programs that meet their career goals. Additionally, students see their mathematics integrated into a larger, technologically intensive world.

This past fall, he was selected as a Fellow with the US Government's Presidential Management Fellowship through the Executive Office of the President's Office of Personnel Management. Starting in July, Peter will begin his Federal Appointment at the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), as a Health Policy and Legislative Analyst, working with the US Congress and other Federal Agencies on Federal Health Policy Implementation and Evaluation. At Geneseo, Peter was actively involved in the many various activities throughout both the Anthropology and Biology Departments including Lambda Alpha Honor Society, was a member of the SUNY Geneseo Chamber Singers and Festival Choir, and served as a Teaching Assistant for both Dr. Barb Welker and Dr. Kristi Krumrine. Peter has also continued to serve as a Research Assistant to Kristi since the beginning of her fieldwork in Coba, Mexico in 2015. Peter is so proud to be a Geneseo Grad, most importantly from the Anthro Department, and credits both Kristi and the late Dr. Rosemarie Chierici for their incredible mentorship and for encouraging him to embark on the path he is on today. Geneseo’s Department of Geological Sciences (GSCI) is a highly student-centered department that houses the programs for the B.A. in Geological Sciences, the B.A. in Geochemistry, the B.A. in Geophysics, an Earth Science Adolescent Certification Program and the GSCI minor.  Each of these programs provides Geneseo students with a strong foundation in the geosciences.  Our graduates are highly successful in finding positions in teaching, industry, and graduate programs.

Students graduating from Geneseo with one of our degrees are invaluable to New York State since we are educating geoscientists who will be future teachers, professional geologists and environmental scientists.  The B.A. in Geological Sciences is a certified state-licensure qualifying program for Professional Geologists in NYS.  Students who earn this degree are highly competitive in the job market and they are able to pursue professional licensure sooner than students from institutions that are not certified.

The respected and active GSCI faculty and staff are invested in providing all Geneseo students with a broad interdisciplinary approach to studying geology and our environment.  We aim to foster a curiosity of how the Earth works and an appreciation how geology and society are interconnected.

Combining tradition and innovation, the major in English gives students an understanding of imaginative and cultural processes and products that is broad, deep, and contextually rich. Courses in English help students develop skills and knowledge necessary for an examined life, a successful career, and responsible membership in a global society.

Welcome to the home page of the Sociology Department at SUNY Geneseo. We emphasize scientific and humanistic approaches to exploring economic and political institutions, culture, media, family, urban life, families, crime, and other aspects of social life. Our graduates pursue graduate study in law, social work, sociology, criminology, community planning, and other fields or move directly into careers including social and human services, criminal justice, and business.

The degree is interdepartmental, stressing basic sciences and analytical skills. Extensive laboratory experience is acquired, making use of advanced instrumentation and techniques. Many students do research projects, either over the summer or in directed studies throughout the school year. Students are also given the opportunity to be tutors or teaching assistants in the chemistry or biology departments, thereby gaining additional useful experience. Graduates are well prepared for employment or further study in the fields of Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Molecular Biology. Alumni have also entered fields of Bioinformatics, Immunology, Bioorganic Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Pharmacology, Education, and Biochemical Engineering. The program is designed to give students the flexibility to choose electives that most closely mirror their interests.

We believe that the Biochemistry program at Geneseo is truly special.  On national assessment exams, our graduates perform well and several students have scored in the 90th percentile or above.  Our graduates routinely sought-after by graduate schools and employers. We believe that Geneseo students do well partly because of the interaction Geneseo students have with professors and with each other. Participants take many classes together and study together in the Biology and Chemistry buildings, so a great deal of camaraderie develops among the biochemistry majors. The atmosphere is very supportive. Another plus is that the students work with faculty on their own research projects. Students obtain hands-on experience with sophisticated equipment, much of which is usually found only in graduate school, and they are encouraged to present their work at local or national meetings/symposia.

The mission of the Biology program at Geneseo is to provide students with a broad background in biology, which can be used as a solid foundation for various careers in the biological sciences and medicine. Students in the program gain an understanding of the basic principles of genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, anatomy and physiology. Students also gain skills in scientific decision-making, and in presenting scientific research in oral and written formats. We also want students to appreciate and value biological diversity and to leave the program with an increased sense of stewardship for the earth.

 The primary objective of this interdisciplinary program is to prepare students for both immediate careers and graduate-level study in geophysics. The program differs from the Bachelor of Arts degree programs in geological sciences and physics since it provides the background in both mathematics and physics that is required for the solution of problems in the field of solid earth geophysics. Geophysics curriculum is taught by the faculty of the Departments of Geological Sciences and Physics.

Students who study philosophy confront theoretical and practical questions about themselves, their social world, and the fundamental nature of reality. Engaging in philosophical thinking is essential to a superior liberal arts education. It enriches thought, understanding, and imagination.

Geneseo is a great place to study philosophy; the department is open and friendly, class sizes are small, and majors are encouraged to combine philosophy with other majors.

The philosophy major meets the needs and interests of students who:
