• Enhanced preparation: Fifth-year graduates will arrive in the workplace with a superior level of skills and knowledge. This frequently translates to more rapid advancement and enhanced career prospects.
• Career planning flexibility: Professional mobility requires a CPA license or the ability to become licensed. Many states which already have 150-hr. requirements will not provide reciprocity for out-of-state candidates who possess only 120 hours. Lack of 150 hours can adversely affect promotions contingent on a transfer, plans to move out of state, or advancement prospects in a market which includes some 150-hr. jurisdictions (e.g. metro NYC).
• Shortened experience requirement: Masters graduates need only one year of work in order to meet the experience requirement for CPA licensure.
• Performance on the CPA exam: There is a growing body of evidence which shows significantly enhanced pass rates for fifth-year students.

The mission of the Biology program at Geneseo is to provide students with a broad background in biology, which can be used as a solid foundation for various careers in the biological sciences and medicine. Students in the program gain an understanding of the basic principles of genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, anatomy and physiology. The Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to promote creative stimulation in students dedicated to either discipline.  Students will be trained in their respective fields, learning the fundamental skill sets necessary to perform and develop their own creative energies. The basis for their success is a comprehensive liberal arts communication program that combines conceptual and critical understanding with hands on application of skills. All majors take coursework in public speaking, interpersonal communication and mass communication. They also select a track of study in Personal and Professional Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, or Intercultural and Critical Studies.

The Biophysics program began in the early 1990's to prepare students for graduate programs at the interface of biology and physics. The program requirements expose students to basic techniques in biology, physics, and mathematics. Students completing this program typically go on to graduate programs in biology, physics, and medical.

Perhaps the best way for us to deal with this field is to say that it's anything that includes overlap between the fields of biology and physics. Geneseo’s Department of Geological Sciences (GSCI) is a highly student-centered department that houses the programs for the B.A. in Geological Sciences, the B.A. in Geochemistry, the B.A. in Geophysics, an Earth Science Adolescent Certification Program and the GSCI minor.  Each of these programs provides Geneseo students with a strong foundation in the geosciences.  Our graduates are highly successful in finding positions in teaching, industry, and graduate programs.

Students graduating from Geneseo with one of our degrees are invaluable to New York State since we are educating geoscientists who will be future teachers, professional geologists and environmental scientists.  The B.A. in Geological Sciences is a certified state-licensure qualifying program for Professional Geologists in NYS.  Students who earn this degree are highly competitive in the job market and they are able to pursue professional licensure sooner than students from institutions that are not certified.
