The American Studies Program at Geneseo is designed to acquaint you with the challenges and diversity of the American experience, past and present. The program offers structured knowledge of our culture's many dimensions. The program in American Studies also allows you the opportunity to pursue an interesting, diversified, yet coherent liberal arts program, one that can serve as the basis for lifelong learning.

American Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to American culture that affords the student substantial flexibility in creating his or her collegiate experience.

• Many of the college’s General Education requirements can be fulfilled while simultaneously completing the American Studies minor.
• American Studies can easily accommodate a double major in disciplines such as English and History.
• American Studies is an excellent choice for students interested graduate school. The program stresses coursework in disciplines that develop the analytic, writing and research skills necessary for professional success. Programs in law, museum studies, library science, and other graduate fields desire well-rounded and capable applicants.

The MS in Accounting program is designed as a full-time/academic year program that builds on the body of knowledge developed in the undergraduate accounting major. Geneseo's small classes, accessible faculty and carefully designed curriculum all reflect the high quality of our highly regarded accounting program.

Earning an MS in Accounting provides the following benefits:

• Enhanced preparation: Fifth-year graduates will arrive in the workplace with a superior level of skills and knowledge. This frequently translates to more rapid advancement and enhanced career prospects.
• Career planning flexibility: Professional mobility requires a CPA license or the ability to become licensed. Many states which already have 150-hr. requirements will not provide reciprocity for out-of-state candidates who possess only 120 hours. Lack of 150 hours can adversely affect promotions contingent on a transfer, plans to move out of state, or advancement prospects in a market which includes some 150-hr. jurisdictions (e.g. metro NYC).
• Shortened experience requirement: Masters graduates need only one year of work in order to meet the experience requirement for CPA licensure.
• Performance on the CPA exam: There is a growing body of evidence which shows significantly enhanced pass rates for fifth-year students.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Black Studies is designed for students who want to take an interdisciplinary approach to their education. By working closely with faculty advisors, students in this major design an individualized program of courses, and internship experiences.

The minor in Africana Studies is designed to provide interdisciplinary approaches to the experiences of peoples of African descent in Africa, in the Americas, and throughout the African diaspora. The minor will enable Geneseo students not only to broaden their perception of cultural diversity but to gain a deeper understanding of cultures. Students will draw knowledge from the humanities, the social sciences, the arts, and other fields of learning that will prepare them to begin to face some of the challenges of "living in an increasingly global and diverse world

Welcome to the home page of the Sociology Department at SUNY Geneseo. We emphasize scientific and humanistic approaches to exploring economic and political institutions, culture, media, family, urban life, families, crime, and other aspects of social life. Our graduates pursue graduate study in law, social work, sociology, criminology, community planning, and other fields or move directly into careers including social and human services, criminal justice, and business.

 The primary objective of this interdisciplinary program is to prepare students for both immediate careers and graduate-level study in geophysics. The program differs from the Bachelor of Arts degree programs in geological sciences and physics since it provides the background in both mathematics and physics that is required for the solution of problems in the field of solid earth geophysics. Geophysics curriculum is taught by the faculty of the Departments of Geological Sciences and Physics.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics has a three fold thrust: to ensure that all students acquire a solid background in the basics of analysis, algebra, and discrete mathematics; to ensure that students have a breadth of knowledge; and to ensure the flexibility of choice that allows students to tailor programs that meet their career goals. Additionally, students see their mathematics integrated into a larger, technologically intensive world.

The Business Administration major prepares students for success in business by combing a liberal arts core with a strong foundation in accounting, economics, marketing, finance, management, and international business. Through numerous projects, group presentations, and case analyses business administration students develop the quantitative, analytical, and communication skills essential to successful business careers today and well into the future.  Internships and hands-on learning experiences round out the program giving the students confidence to solve complex problems and add value to a company from day one. When combined with one of the School of Business minors, students are well prepared to enter careers in a wide array of professions.

The Biophysics program began in the early 1990's to prepare students for graduate programs at the interface of biology and physics. The program requirements expose students to basic techniques in biology, physics, and mathematics. Students completing this program typically go on to graduate programs in biology, physics, and medical.

school.Biophysics is a broadly and variably defined topic. All definitions are subject to definer bias. Perhaps the best way for us to deal with this field is to say that it's anything that includes overlap between the fields of biology and physics. The scale for these interactions range from the very small (e.g., biochemical dynamics) to the large (e.g., do elephants actually run?). You might check out various faculty and their interests to get a feeling for the breadth of folks here at SUNY Geneseo.

Comparative Literature situates literary and cultural production in an international perspective.  As a scholarly discipline and an undergraduate major, its focus is both particular works of literature, broadly defined, and literary history and theory.   The ComLit major offers a transnational model of comparison that takes as its point of departure the commitment to a relational, polyphonic, and contrapuntal—rather than merely binary and oppositional—understanding of literatures, cultures, and identities.
