Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers while developing additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

Study in the five high-demand concentration areas of embedded systems, robotics, biomedical instrumentation, wireless communications and modern energy systems. Our ECE program prepares you for successful careers in engineering or related professional disciplines, or the successful pursuit of graduate studies with contributions to improving society and the global community.

Join prestigious engineering societies — such as the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and others — to network with other students and professionals. Extracurricular activities include participation in special-interest student clubs in robotics, power systems, telecommunications and others, as well as participation in academic student competitions.

SUNY Oswego’s bachelor of science degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET – the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

You can choose to study and investigate a number of specialization areas including cellular and molecular, organismal and systematic, genetic and developmental, or environmental and population biology. After introductory core courses, students and professors work together to design a program of additional courses to fit your professional career interests. Careful selection of electives, research courses, projects and internships can prepare you for particular careers, graduate studies and/or training at professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine).

Excel and you may qualify for the chemistry honors program, which emphasizes independent study and research, or even the national honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi. You can present your work at Sigma Xi and other conferences. A large network of internships and co-op opportunities are among the ingredients for future success.

Facilities and equipment in the Shineman Center include a scanning electron microscope, 300 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, scintillation counter, analytical chromatographs, preparative gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer and many computing facilities.

Multidisciplinary courses in such topics as anthropology, sociology, the family, or communication and counseling, provide additional background from other social sciences. Through a personalized learning agreement, you can add three additional courses from different disciplines relevant to your personal educational and career goals.

Select two semester-long internships relevant to your career goals, and apply the academic material you’ve learned to working with people in a human-services role. Take courses to focus on the application of the scientific method in program settings to better and more efficiently serve people using skills in program development and evaluation.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience. Our Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program prepares students with the listening, problem-solving, diagnosis, treatment planning and case consultation skills needed for a successful future in the field. The program consists of 60 credits, which allows you to create relationships with area leaders for future opportunities, plus see the skills, theories and ethics utilized in the practice.

Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. Our undergraduate curriculum includes chemistry, mathematics, physics, genetics and biology. SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more. Updated and powerful labs in the Shineman Center will aid all your research pursuits.

You’ll find numerous performance opportunities in credit-bearing musical organizations and in private studio instruction open to all qualified students regardless of major. Develop comprehensive musicianship through a combination of two years of music theory, three semesters of music history, one year of piano proficiency and a minimum of two years of applied studio instruction and ensemble performance.

Develop your talent in private or group lessons; at Oswego, these are available on all instruments and voice, taught by talented faculty.
