The study of modern languages, literatures and cultures helps emphasize similarities and improve communication between people and nations in our global society. Our department of modern languages and literatures, among the largest in the SUNY system, offers learning in small classes led by faculty who encourage active use of your chosen language, as well as many study-abroad opportunities.

Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour and in the friendly department’s foyer. Attend foreign films, lectures, discussions and field trips, and participate in Hispanic Heritage Month and other programs. Take advantage of study-abroad programs in Barcelona and Latin America, or enroll in a Global Cities course that takes you to Madrid.

This interdisciplinary program provides language skills, cultural information and an understanding of the fundamental business and economic concepts essential for those in management and marketing positions in firms that operate in the global economy. Most recent data suggest that the job market for these occupations is likely to remain favorable.

Core courses build your foundation in language and culture, as well as basic economic and business concepts, while electives offer you the opportunity to develop a greater depth of knowledge. A dual-language option, for those already proficient in a foreign language, further enhances employment prospects. Our robust study-abroad program provides opportunities to work or intern in multinational or international firms abroad. The program’s required capstone internship lets you apply the knowledge you’ve learned in your classes to a work setting.

The program has a core that requires the student to develop an understanding of, and ability to apply, the fundamentals of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, the student narrows focus to complete additional and more advanced work at the intersection of at least two of these disciplines. Students interested in pursuing careers in law, politics, public service, or any field concerned with developing or interpreting social policy, will find the course of study uniquely beneficial.

As a PP&E major you will learn study the core methods and theories of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, after completing your core requirements, you can specialize in two of the disciplines to more advanced study and work: political economy, philosophy and economics, or politics and philosophy.

You can choose to study and investigate a number of specialization areas including cellular and molecular, organismal and systematic, genetic and developmental, or environmental and population biology. After introductory core courses, students and professors work together to design a program of additional courses to fit your professional career interests. Careful selection of electives, research courses, projects and internships can prepare you for particular careers, graduate studies and/or training at professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine).

Join the Computer Science Association, which sponsors guest speakers, conducts programming contests, arranges tours of companies that hire graduates and provides opportunities for advanced students to tutor and mentor first-year students. Develop software for real clients during your year-long capstone experience. Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience.
