To integrate research results from a wide range of disciplines into a more complete understanding of the mind, the programs draw on methods associated with psychology, computer science (artificial intelligence), linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and biology. You’ll start building a solid foundation in the field through two introductory courses that focus on the core values of cognitive science and the seminal ideas associated with contributing disciplines and the brain, mind and consciousness. Enroll in our BA degree program and select a set of three upper-division courses from a broad range of options — including Neural Networks, Cognitive Musicology, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. Or choose our more tightly focused BS degree program and pursue additional coursework in psychology and computer science. Use your nine-semester-hour learning agreement to explore a particular aspect of the field in depth — and develop your own interest into a wealth of focused knowledge.

State-of-the-art facilities in the Shineman Center include workspaces configured for class-based, small-group and individual activities. Our labs provide a great learning, testing and training ground for future success.

Choose from a diverse selection of courses, including transportation systems, electronics and mechatronics, design, computer-aided drafting (CAD), mechanical/architectural drafting, construction systems, materials processing, instructional technologies, manufacturing and energy technologies. With the ever-evolving nature of technology, you'll learn on updated tools and gain the foundation to handle the workplace of today and the future.

Join the active Oswego Technology Education Association student organization. Get involved in community service projects, including scholastic robot competitions. Work with faculty on applied projects. Take advantage of an internship or co-op opportunity to put what you've learned to work in hands-on experience. Help with Team Mini, the department's popular miniature zamboni.

Core subjects include management, accounting, marketing, organization, law and finance. Specialization in a particular field — international management, manufacturing management, organizational leadership or financial services — can lead to valuable, in-depth study in your area of interest.

Engage in teamwork and practical projects to put what you’re learning into practice — culminating with your capstone experience. Join a student-operated, faculty-advised professional organization such as the Business Management Club or Phi Beta Lambda. Interact with, and gain experience from, professional groups in the business community. Build your resume through internships and co-op opportunities. Apply for a study-abroad program in Europe, Australia or mainland China — or one of the internships available at the local, national and international levels.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers while developing additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

Offered by the departments of mathematics and economics, the program's course requirements and electives divide equally between economic theory and mathematics, and include computer science coursework. Your degree prepares you for the growing importance of analyzing and applying statistics and data.

Oswego students have interned at major banks and investment institutions, and worked as teaching assistants and peer tutors. You can participate in national and regional competitions such as the College Fed Challenge, which encourages students to learn more about the U.S. macro-economy and the Federal Reserve System.

The demand for the many fields in human services and technology where a psychology degree can prove beneficial continues to increase. Even as an undergraduate, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate closely with faculty members on research projects in many areas of psychology — from applied, clinical, cognitive and counseling to neuroscience, quantitative research methods and more.

Work with faculty on many research opportunities in the field. Get involved in service-learning experiences and serve as a research assistant or teaching assistant. Join the Psychology Club, which sponsors trips and speaker series. Gain valuable experience as a volunteer in the Peer Advisement and Career Awareness Center. Excel and you may be eligible for membership in Psi Chi, the international psychology honor society.

Numerous laboratories include a large computer facility that enables you to examine how people interface with technology. Our internationally renowned Center for Neurobehavioral Effects of Environmental Toxins, investigating the effects of exposure to environmental pollutants on cognitive and behavioral development, offers opportunities for talented and highly motivated undergraduates to participate in ongoing research projects.

All students engage in research activities through a broad range of research courses, independent study or a senior honors thesis. Outstanding internship opportunities, study-abroad initiatives and Oswego's Rice Creek Field Station make our zoology program a sought-after degree by itself or preparation for veterinary school.

Top-notch research facilities and opportunities in the Shineman Center and Rice Creek Field Station make the campus a living laboratory, while a proven track record and alumni network open a large assortment of internship options. Excel, and you can participate in the department's honors program and summer research opportunities.

Facilities include our Shineman Center's many advanced labs and the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Center allowing expansive undergraduate opportunities, and our large Rice Creek Field Station with a 7,200-square-foot lab facility.

Centered primarily in the social and behavioral sciences, the program combines a liberal arts education, in-depth study in your area of interest and supervised fieldwork. We also offer an online degree completion program for those with appropriate transfer credit.

The optional internship gives you the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, and enables you to make contact with working professionals — and possible employers. Add a forensic science minor — or double-major in criminal justice and psychology, sociology or political science — to more fully prepare for career or graduate school plans. Choose evening or online options to fit coursework around your work or family schedule. Excel and you can work as a peer adviser or undergraduate assistant in certain courses, and you may be eligible to join Alpha Delta Omega, the public justice honor society.

Candidates will examine theoretical and practical applications of communication research within environments that require strategic communication, such as organizational and mediated contexts. Recent baccalaureate graduates and current professionals will have an opportunity to examine the creation, perception, interpretation, and implications of communicated messages.

Your examination of public communication will include the study of public speaking and the principles of persuasion, argumentation and rhetoric. You’ll actively participate in class discussions on topics such as the ways individuals differ in their communication of gender and culture. 

Students apply practical outcomes of their education through a service learning requirement that is part of their degree program. We strongly encourage internships, co-ops, independent studies and other opportunities to apply your campus learning experiences. If you excel, you may be eligible to join the department’s honor society, Lambda Pi Eta.

Student media The Oswegonian, WTOP-TV and WNYO-FM, as well as on-campus National Public Radio affiliate WRVO, provide opportunities to put your communication skills into action through performance, promotion and running social media accounts.
