The optional internship gives you the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, and enables you to make contact with working professionals — and possible employers. Add a forensic science minor — or double-major in criminal justice and psychology, sociology or political science — to more fully prepare for career or graduate school plans. Join the student affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which offers free tutoring and other services — and has often been cited as one of the most outstanding in the country. SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more. Updated and powerful labs in the Shineman Center will aid all your research pursuits.

SUNY Oswego’s bachelor of science degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET – the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

Our program provides a foundation in the principles of geology and its related sciences with four laboratories, a seismograph and field experiences. A newer track on environmental earth sciences integrates a set of cross-disciplinary environmental science experiences from biological sciences, chemistry, meteorology and physics.

Oswego is ideally located for field studies of Lake Ontario, carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower Paleozoic age, Precambrian rocks of the Adirondacks, Pleistocene glacial features and the pollution of rivers and ground waters. Field trips may include southeastern Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay, Ithaca, Whitaker State Park, and the Catskill Mountains.

You’ll acquire knowledge that can help you think critically and communicate effectively about social structures and the forces that shape individual, group and collective experience. The program's scope ranges from the analysis of small-group behavior to the study of the development of large social systems — from the family to education, religion, government and the economy.

Join the Sociology Club. Participate in valuable internships, usually at social and county agencies, and take advantage of our extensive overseas study program. Opportunities for exceptional students include working with professors one-on-one in independent study courses, and participating in the SUNY Oswego Sociology Honors Society. An annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium provides an opportunity to present on sports sociology (and other related) topics.

You will take specialized courses in risk management, lines of insurance and employee benefits while also gaining core strengths in such areas as accounting, finance, marketing and management.

Study risk management problems and solutions in depth during your capstone experience. You’ll study in the region (Central New York) that has the second-highest insurance industry employment east of the Mississippi. SUNY Oswego's Gordon A. Lenz Center for Finance, Insurance and Risk Management provides resources for excellence in teaching, research and community outreach.

Through courses on marketing principles, consumer behavior, marketing research and advertising and promotion, the program introduces concepts and tools employed by successful professionals. It also emphasizes team-oriented projects that enable you to apply various principles of marketing management to actual business problems.

Participate in governing of SUNY Oswego chapter of the American Marketing Association. You’ll discover new approaches in marketing — such as e-marketing, social marketing, the role of media in integrated marketing communications and branding — through classroom discussions, case simulations and class activities. Learn from hands-on opportunities available through internships and co-op programs.

The program combines interdisciplinary courses from the departments of anthropology, art, economics, English and creative writing, history, music, philosophy, political science and sociology. With guidance from your faculty advisor, the program can be tailored to your interests, and culminates with a senior seminar concentrating on some aspect or period of American life.

Because of the interdisciplinary approach, students can intern in a variety of fields ranging from museums to publishers to government agencies. The city of Oswego’s rich history as a center for trade, commerce and military defense makes SUNY Oswego the perfect place to study this topic. Oswego historic attractions include Fort Ontario, a key installation in early wars; the Safe Haven Museum, commemorating a one-of-its-kind shelter for Jewish and other refugees fleeing Europe during World War II; and connections with the Underground Railroad.

You can choose to study and investigate a number of specialization areas including cellular and molecular, organismal and systematic, genetic and developmental, or environmental and population biology. After introductory core courses, students and professors work together to design a program of additional courses to fit your professional career interests.
