Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. Join the student affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which offers free tutoring and other services — and has often been cited as one of the most outstanding in the country. Excel and you may qualify for the chemistry honors program, which emphasizes independent study and research — or even the national honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi.

SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more. Updated and powerful labs in the Shineman Center will aid all your research pursuits.

You'll learn about the creation and production of media, the interrelated nature of media industries and the skills necessary to write, produce and distribute media messages. Explore a variety of areas including audio and video production, broadcast journalism, copywriting and media management. Our updated curriculum includes a variety of offerings in integrated media design and social media.

Many hands-on opportunities in front of or behind the camera, in control rooms and on the radio — including with some of the best campus facilities anywhere — make Oswego's broadcasting program a launchpad for countless successful careers.

In addition to campus radio (WNYO) and TV organizations (WTOP), you can seek an internship or co-op opportunity and gain valuable experience, Oswego students have interned at major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, MTV, ESPN), regional radio (including on-campus National Public Radio affiliate WRVO) and television stations, state and federal agencies and not-for-profit civic and cultural groups. Our Hollywood POV program takes you to the West Coast media capital to learn about, and connect with alumni working in, major entertainment and news operations. You can also help organize the annual Dr. Lewis B. O'Donnell Media Summit, which brings prominent names in the industry to campus.

Offered jointly by the Atmospheric and Geological Sciences Department and Chemistry Department, this program covers topics ranging from the chemical makeup of Venus to the search for oil on Earth. Courses cover general, historical and structural geology; mineralogy; petrology; and physical chemistry.

Facilities include four full-sized laboratories, a seismograph for recording worldwide earthquakes and a geology computer lab in the Shineman Center.

As the healthcare industry continues to expand, the job outlook for wellness management graduates is excellent. Our unique SUNY wellness management program combines fitness and health promotion disciplines along with business.

You can select a program that focuses on wellness, worksite health promotion and managing such programs. In addition to a broad liberal arts education, you can graduate with a foundation in health science/wellness, management and human behavior, and gain skills in needs assessment, program planning, program implementation and program evaluation. We also offer an online degree completion program for those with appropriate transfer credit.*

You’ll gain valuable real-world experience during your junior or senior year internship, which consists of 120 hours of supervised field work. Choose from a wide variety of settings — including fitness centers, YMCAs, worksite health promotion programs, physical therapy offices, public health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and more. The program is also available as an online completion degree.

The year long capstone experience places students in a position of developing software for real clients. The laboratory and instructional facilities support and encourage creativity and teamwork. Oswego’s software engineering program — the first in all of SUNY — provides a systems-oriented curriculum that encompasses software requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, configuration management, engineering management, engineering process, tools and quality assurance.

To integrate research results from a wide range of disciplines into a more complete understanding of the mind, the programs draw on methods associated with psychology, computer science (artificial intelligence), linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and biology. You’ll start building a solid foundation in the field through two introductory courses that focus on the core values of cognitive science and the seminal ideas associated with contributing disciplines and the brain, mind and consciousness. In addition to learning more about yourself, you will be better equipped for success in our technologically vibrant society.

Enroll in our BA degree program and select a set of three upper-division courses from a broad range of options — including Neural Networks, Cognitive Musicology, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. Or choose our more tightly focused BS degree program and pursue additional coursework in psychology and computer science. The curriculum explores the diverse experiences, perspectives, culture, history and significant contributions of women. This interdisciplinary major is designed to develop a broad understanding of the study of gender and women, investigate women's contributions in all areas of academic scholarship, and explore the relationship between cultural definitions of feminine and masculine behaviors and the realities of women's and men's lives. Choose from core or concentration courses to design programs that fit your specific interests and career orientation.

Take advantage of opportunities for learning beyond the traditional classroom by applying for internships, independent studies and seminars under the mentoring of an academic adviser. The program collaborates closely with the Women’s Center, a student organization that puts classroom instruction into practice. Get involved the annual Women Aloud program of performers, poets and speakers that raises funds for scholarships in this program.

Our Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program prepares students with the listening, problem-solving, diagnosis, treatment planning and case consultation skills needed for a successful future in the field. The program consists of 60 credits, which allows you to create relationships with area leaders for future opportunities, plus see the skills, theories and ethics utilized in the practice.
