Overview
While the technical component encompasses computer programming, database and text management systems, telecommunications, expert systems and statistics, the human perspective includes assessing information needs and exploring the social effects of information systems.
You’ll gain experiences that develop both computational competence and the ability to link people with technology — as well as the skills needed to participate in a field that continually adapts to match emerging technologies with evolving information requirements. Our strong internship program and networks provide many opportunities for hands-on experience in that in-demand field.
State-of-the-art facilities in the Shineman Center include workspaces configured for class-based, small-group and individual activities. Our labs provide a great learning, testing and training ground for future success.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Science in Meteorology
Meteorologists study the atmosphere and its physical and chemical characteristics and processes, weather patterns and climate. We offer specialized study in different subsections of meteorology, atmospheric and cloud physics, climatology, instruments and air pollution.
Participate in our pioneering Storm Chasers summer program where you'll forecast, pursue and observe extreme weather through the Great Plains states. Join the campus chapter of the American Meteorological Society and attend meetings of the professional AMS with your professors. Get on-air experience as a future TV meteorologist at WTOP, our on-campus television station. Find ample chances to present your own research. Our program and alumni success opens up internship opportunities in such places as the National Weather Service, government agencies, private-sector meteorological firms and television stations.
You’ll have abundant opportunities to engage in hands-on research with faculty through the Lake-Effect Storm Prediction and Research Center. Our observation equipment constantly monitors changes in local weather, with a constant online stream of the latest observational and forecast data. A mesoscale model also provides local forecast data. Interactive graphical interfaces along with specialized graphics provide state-of-the-art visualization for meteorological data. Meteorology lab spaces in the Shineman Center offer hands-on opportunities with advanced tools like our wind tunnel and weather balloon system.

Each genre (fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, playwriting and screenwriting) has beginning, intermediate and advanced courses. Critical thinking and communication skills are key components of all coursework.

The solid coursework includes biological and forensic anthropology, archaeology, ethnology, anthropological and archaeological theory, globalization, research methods, language and culture. Our program includes the availability of special topics such as comparative religion, sociobiology and a variety of courses that focus on specific cultural areas (China and North America, for example). Opportunities for field work at home and abroad with remarkable professors make Oswego's anthropology program top-notch.
You have many opportunities for field work, including archaeological digs in historically rich Central and Northern New York as well as in France and the Bahamas. Participate in internships and study-abroad programs; recent examples include internships with the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office and studying in France, India, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Peru, Tanzania, Poland and Italy. Join the Anthropology Club, which sponsors guest lectures and social events, as well as trips to museums and meetings of national anthropological associations.

The program has a core that requires the student to develop an understanding of, and ability to apply, the fundamentals of each of the constituting disciplines. As a PP&E major you will learn study the core methods and theories of each of the constituting disciplines. In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.
A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour, and in the friendly department’s foyer. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

You’ll find numerous performance opportunities in credit-bearing musical organizations and in private studio instruction open to all qualified students regardless of major. Develop comprehensive musicianship through a combination of two years of music theory, three semesters of music history, one year of piano proficiency and a minimum of two years of applied studio instruction and ensemble performance.
Develop your talent in private or group lessons; at Oswego, these are available on all instruments and voice, taught by talented faculty. Apply to join one of two large choirs, or select vocal ensemble, orchestra, wind ensemble or jazz bands. Gain musical theatre and operatic experiences through our collaborations with the theatre department. Excel, and you may be eligible to join Mu Beta Psi, a national honorary music fraternity, or Pi Kappa Lambda, a national music honor society.
The recently renovated Tyler Hall, the music department’s home base, contains a large theatre, two sizable rehearsal/performance rooms, many practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital piano lab, a fully equipped multi-station computer MIDI lab, a music learning center and a digital multi-track based recording studio.
