To integrate research results from a wide range of disciplines into a more complete understanding of the mind, the programs draw on methods associated with psychology, computer science (artificial intelligence), linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and biology. Enroll in our BA degree program and select a set of three upper-division courses from a broad range of options — including Neural Networks, Cognitive Musicology, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. Or choose our more tightly focused BS degree program and pursue additional coursework in psychology and computer science. Use your nine-semester-hour learning agreement to explore a particular aspect of the field in depth — and develop your own interest into a wealth of focused knowledge.

Offered by the departments of mathematics and economics, the program's course requirements and electives divide equally between economic theory and mathematics, and include computer science coursework. Your degree prepares you for the growing importance of analyzing and applying statistics and data.

Oswego students have interned at major banks and investment institutions, and worked as teaching assistants and peer tutors. You can participate in national and regional competitions such as the College Fed Challenge, which encourages students to learn more about the U.S. macro-economy and the Federal Reserve System.

In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.

A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour, and in the friendly department’s foyer. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

The year long capstone experience places students in a position of developing software for real clients. The laboratory and instructional facilities support and encourage creativity and teamwork. Oswego’s software engineering program — the first in all of SUNY — provides a systems-oriented curriculum that encompasses software requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, configuration management, engineering management, engineering process, tools and quality assurance.

Our ECE program prepares you for successful careers in engineering or related professional disciplines, or the successful pursuit of graduate studies with contributions to improving society and the global community.

Join prestigious engineering societies — such as the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and others — to network with other students and professionals. Extracurricular activities include participation in special-interest student clubs in robotics, power systems, telecommunications and others, as well as participation in academic student competitions.

You’ll acquire knowledge that can help you think critically and communicate effectively about social structures and the forces that shape individual, group and collective experience. The program's scope ranges from the analysis of small-group behavior to the study of the development of large social systems — from the family to education, religion, government and the economy.

Join the Sociology Club. Participate in valuable internships, usually at social and county agencies, and take advantage of our extensive overseas study program. Opportunities for exceptional students include working with professors one-on-one in independent study courses, and participating in the SUNY Oswego Sociology Honors Society. An annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium provides an opportunity to present on sports sociology (and other related) topics.

Through courses on marketing principles, consumer behavior, marketing research and advertising and promotion, the program introduces concepts and tools employed by successful professionals. It also emphasizes team-oriented projects that enable you to apply various principles of marketing management to actual business problems.

Participate in governing of SUNY Oswego chapter of the American Marketing Association. You’ll discover new approaches in marketing — such as e-marketing, social marketing, the role of media in integrated marketing communications and branding — through classroom discussions, case simulations and class activities.
