SUNY Oswego’s bachelor of science degree program in Software Engineering (SE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET — the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience. Oswego offers top-notch internships, co-op opportunities and connections, most notably immersive 10-week internships at NASA's CalTech Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Participate hands-on in faculty research as part of your senior capstone experience in undergraduate research.

Physics facilities include our planetarium, computational laboratory, condensed matter physics laboratory, nanotechnology laboratory, thin films laboratory and nuclear instrumentation detectors lab, and an outdoor observatory.

You will be able to tailor your education to meet your goals. Choose between a thesis track focusing on research designed for students who wish to gain more experience in research or a non-thesis track for students interested in taking more courses. Both tracks will help students to enter the workforce upon graduation or to apply to Ph.D. programs following their master’s degree. Our program includes a professional track option designed to include business management electives selected from our award-winning MBA programs. Students will take courses such as operations management to prepare for the application of business principles to chemistry.

Our bachelor's in applied mathematics examines the practical applications of mathematics in science and operations research. Your degree prepares you for the growing importance of analyzing and applying statistics and data.

Organized around guided flexibility, our program offers a core of knowledge to help prepare you for a career in political science, government or law — along with the freedom to explore your own areas of interest.

The department emphasizes the global nature of the contemporary political world — characterized by the deepening interdependence among nations and regions, as well as a blend of cultures and political systems. Students will study the political behavior of leaders, citizens and social groups the formal institutions that carry out public policy, while developing an understanding of the hows and whys of governing.

Join SUNY Oswego’s Political Science Club. Get politically involved with the Student Association or different student organizations. Work individually with faculty on areas of particular interest to you. Choose among many opportunities to study abroad — either for short periods as part of a class or in semester, summer or year-long programs.

Earn up to 12 semester hours of credit working as an assistant in local government or citizens’ organizations, state agencies, the state legislature in Albany -- or in Washington, D.C., with the U.S. Congress, the White House or the Supreme Court, as well as non-governmental organizations. Internship placements are also available abroad. Excel, and you could be inducted into the Oswego chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society.

Our program provides a foundation in the principles of geology and its related sciences with four laboratories, a seismograph and field experiences. A newer track on environmental earth sciences integrates a set of cross-disciplinary environmental science experiences from biological sciences, chemistry, meteorology and physics.

Oswego is ideally located for field studies of Lake Ontario, carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower Paleozoic age, Precambrian rocks of the Adirondacks, Pleistocene glacial features and the pollution of rivers and ground waters. Field trips may include southeastern Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay, Ithaca, Whitaker State Park, and the Catskill Mountains.

You also can perform research with professors around the country, or learn firsthand about field-based research and much more in our Geology Field Program. Build your resume through internships and co-op opportunities, and complete an independent research project under the direction of a faculty adviser. Study geology abroad through through regular coursework or research placements.

In this program, we aim to develop your skills and aesthetic understanding in an artistic discipline. Students are required to take courses that blend studio practice with references to art history and theory. You have the chance to work closely with teachers who are committed to creative work in their own field and encourage students to follow the same path. The program encourages you to strive for the creation of a significant body of art work representing very high levels of achievement.

This selective program emphasizing studio art includes several phases of professional competence in the department with the possible inclusion of other disciplines outside the department when necessary.

You will study with accomplished writers/professors as you move from introductory courses to advanced workshops. Each genre (fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, playwriting and screenwriting) has beginning, intermediate and advanced courses. Even if you’ve never written in that genre, you’ll learn the basics, work through larger projects and progress to mastery. Critical thinking and communication skills are key components of all coursework.

Advanced creative writing courses include Memoir Writing, Horror Podcasts, Webisodes, Flash Fiction, Sitcom Writing and Blogs. Publish your work in The Oswegonian student weekly, Great Lake Review creative writing journal and Exist e-publication. Join The Creative Writing Club, Writer’s Open Forum, Storyteller’s Guild or New Voices Playwriting.
