Cinema and screen studies focuses on the history, theory and criticism of cinema, as well as of new and pre-cinematic screen media, with a sequence in screenwriting and digital film production. The program incorporates interdisciplinary options that allow you to link studies of moving images to exciting developments in cognitive science, computer and information sciences, and the other humanities, fine arts and social sciences.

Use the course learning agreement to focus on your own interests — whether that means acting, design, computer animation, the psychological and social effects of moving images, media literacy and education — or the connections among information science, the natural sciences and visual technologies. Create a public exhibition of a film or video project — or a public reading and discussion of a research project or screenplay — to fulfill your capstone course requirement. Oswego's program regularly shows at, and sometimes hosts, the SUNY-wide Film Festival.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

To integrate research results from a wide range of disciplines into a more complete understanding of the mind, the programs draw on methods associated with psychology, computer science (artificial intelligence), linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and biology. You’ll start building a solid foundation in the field through two introductory courses that focus on the core values of cognitive science and the seminal ideas associated with contributing disciplines and the brain, mind and consciousness. Enroll in our BA degree program and select a set of three upper-division courses from a broad range of options — including Neural Networks, Cognitive Musicology, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. Or choose our more tightly focused BS degree program and pursue additional coursework in psychology and computer science. Use your nine-semester-hour learning agreement to explore a particular aspect of the field in depth — and develop your own interest into a wealth of focused knowledge.

While the technical component encompasses computer programming, database and text management systems, telecommunications, expert systems and statistics, the human perspective includes assessing information needs and exploring the social effects of information systems.

You’ll gain experiences that develop both computational competence and the ability to link people with technology — as well as the skills needed to participate in a field that continually adapts to match emerging technologies with evolving information requirements. The teaching of this broad base of knowledge is supported by the years of practical, professional experience our faculty bring to the classroom. Coursework includes strong elements of the accounting, economics and quantitative fields, and will prepare you for positions in financial institutions such as commercial and investment banks, mutual funds, brokerages and insurance companies.

Visit places such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange as part of extracurricular activities. Join Enactus to network, do community outreach projects and participate in competitions. Become part of the Financial Management Association to make additional connections and learn about research opportunities. Join the Investment Club and take advantage of the opportunity to manage a shared portfolio, and put what you’re learning into practice.

As a student, you'll even receive hands-on experience helping manage funds. SUNY Oswego's Gordon A. Lenz Center for Finance, Insurance and Risk Management provides resources for excellence in teaching, research and community outreach.

Throughout the interaction design program students will focus on experimentation, prototyping, iteration, storytelling and problem solving, and continually develop their skills through discussions and critiques.

Our outstanding digital studios are equipped with industry-standard programs and technologies to support a wide range of projects in a hands-on studio environment. After graduation, students will be prepared to enter and lead in fields including user experience, user interface, extended reality, multimedia design, motion design, web design, product design, 3-D design and printing, and other emerging fields.

The demand for the many fields in human services and technology where a psychology degree can prove beneficial continues to increase. Even as an undergraduate, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate closely with faculty members on research projects in many areas of psychology — from applied, clinical, cognitive and counseling to neuroscience, quantitative research methods and more.

Work with faculty on many research opportunities in the field. Get involved in service-learning experiences and serve as a research assistant or teaching assistant. Join the Psychology Club, which sponsors trips and speaker series. Gain valuable experience as a volunteer in the Peer Advisement and Career Awareness Center. Excel and you may be eligible for membership in Psi Chi, the international psychology honor society.

Numerous laboratories include a large computer facility that enables you to examine how people interface with technology. Our internationally renowned Center for Neurobehavioral Effects of Environmental Toxins, investigating the effects of exposure to environmental pollutants on cognitive and behavioral development, offers opportunities for talented and highly motivated undergraduates to participate in ongoing research projects.

The Public Accounting MBA combines a comprehensive business curriculum with required accounting courses in tax, theory, audit and government accounting. The program prepares students for high-level careers in accounting and finance.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience. Oswego's physics program offers many hands-on opportunities in the Shineman Center through many labs and a working planetarium — as well as through sought-after internships and chances to study abroad.

Oswego offers top-notch internships, co-op opportunities and connections, most notably immersive 10-week internships at NASA's CalTech Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Participate hands-on in faculty research as part of your senior capstone experience in undergraduate research.

Physics facilities include our planetarium, computational laboratory, condensed matter physics laboratory, nanotechnology laboratory, thin films laboratory and nuclear instrumentation detectors lab, and an outdoor observatory.

As the healthcare industry continues to expand, the job outlook for wellness management graduates is excellent. Our unique SUNY wellness management program combines fitness and health promotion disciplines along with business.

You can select a program that focuses on wellness, worksite health promotion and managing such programs. In addition to a broad liberal arts education, you can graduate with a foundation in health science/wellness, management and human behavior, and gain skills in needs assessment, program planning, program implementation and program evaluation. We also offer an online degree completion program for those with appropriate transfer credit.*

You’ll gain valuable real-world experience during your junior or senior year internship, which consists of 120 hours of supervised field work. Choose from a wide variety of settings — including fitness centers, YMCAs, worksite health promotion programs, physical therapy offices, public health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and more. The program is also available as an online completion degree.
