Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

The year long capstone experience places students in a position of developing software for real clients. The laboratory and instructional facilities support and encourage creativity and teamwork. Oswego’s software engineering program — the first in all of SUNY — provides a systems-oriented curriculum that encompasses software requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, configuration management, engineering management, engineering process, tools and quality assurance.
Join the Computer Science Association, which sponsors guest speakers, conducts programming contests, arranges tours of companies that hire graduates and provides opportunities for advanced students to tutor and mentor first-year students. Develop software for real clients during your year-long capstone experience. Pursue an internship or co-op opportunity in a company or institution, and gain software development experience in finance, defense, manufacturing, government or other fields.

The demand for the many fields in human services and technology where a psychology degree can prove beneficial continues to increase. Even as an undergraduate, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate closely with faculty members on research projects in many areas of psychology — from applied, clinical, cognitive and counseling to neuroscience, quantitative research methods and more.

In our English program in literary studies, you'll cultivate valuable skills in writing and critical thinking while exploring literary works by diverse writers. Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics
The program has a core that requires the student to develop an understanding of, and ability to apply, the fundamentals of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, the student narrows focus to complete additional and more advanced work at the intersection of at least two of these disciplines. Students interested in pursuing careers in law, politics, public service, or any field concerned with developing or interpreting social policy, will find the course of study uniquely beneficial.
Our faculty are internationally recognized researchers and teachers. We have an active community of scholarship where students are welcome and encouraged to participate.
As a PP&E major you will learn study the core methods and theories of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, after completing your core requirements, you can specialize in two of the disciplines to more advanced study and work: political economy, philosophy and economics, or politics and philosophy.

In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.
A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour, and in the friendly department’s foyer. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

You may choose a concentration in global politics and governance, global political economy, global culture or area studies. Core courses encompass international and global events, organizations, structures and processes — as well as the global economy, global media and increasing worldwide cultural interconnectedness. During the senior year, you will choose either a capstone seminar in your concentration or a relevant internship in an international area. In consultation with an adviser, you can develop a more directed program of study — such as a focus on development in the Third World or on globalism.
