The program has a core that requires the student to develop an understanding of, and ability to apply, the fundamentals of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, the student narrows focus to complete additional and more advanced work at the intersection of at least two of these disciplines. Students interested in pursuing careers in law, politics, public service, or any field concerned with developing or interpreting social policy, will find the course of study uniquely beneficial.

As a PP&E major you will learn study the core methods and theories of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, after completing your core requirements, you can specialize in two of the disciplines to more advanced study and work: political economy, philosophy and economics, or politics and philosophy.

Offered jointly by the Atmospheric and Geological Sciences Department and Chemistry Department, this program covers topics ranging from the chemical makeup of Venus to the search for oil on Earth. Courses cover general, historical and structural geology; mineralogy; petrology; and physical chemistry.

Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. Our undergraduate curriculum includes chemistry, mathematics, physics, genetics and biology. Join the student affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which offers free tutoring and other services — and has often been cited as one of the most outstanding in the country. Excel and you may qualify for the chemistry honors program, which emphasizes independent study and research — or even the national honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi.

SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more. Updated and powerful labs in the Shineman Center will aid all your research pursuits.

Throughout the interaction design program students will focus on experimentation, prototyping, iteration, storytelling and problem solving, and continually develop their skills through discussions and critiques.

Our outstanding digital studios are equipped with industry-standard programs and technologies to support a wide range of projects in a hands-on studio environment. In addition to studios, our “maker-spaces” assist students in preparing portfolios and framing, digital photography, audio/video production, and sensor technology for interaction projects.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers to develop additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

After graduation, students will be prepared to enter and lead in fields including user experience, user interface, extended reality, multimedia design, motion design, web design, product design, 3-D design and printing, and other emerging fields.

All students engage in research activities through a broad range of research courses, independent study or a senior honors thesis. In this program, we aim to develop your skills and aesthetic understanding in an artistic discipline. Students are required to take courses that blend studio practice with references to art history and theory. You have the chance to work closely with teachers who are committed to creative work in their own field and encourage students to follow the same path. The program encourages you to strive for the creation of a significant body of art work representing very high levels of achievement.

This selective program emphasizing studio art includes several phases of professional competence in the department with the possible inclusion of other disciplines outside the department when necessary.
