Overview
You will take specialized courses in risk management, lines of insurance and employee benefits while also gaining core strengths in such areas as accounting, finance, marketing and management.
Study risk management problems and solutions in depth during your capstone experience. Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

Your examination of public communication will include the study of public speaking and the principles of persuasion, argumentation and rhetoric. You’ll actively participate in class discussions on topics such as the ways individuals differ in their communication of gender and culture.
Students apply practical outcomes of their education through a service learning requirement that is part of their degree program. We strongly encourage internships, co-ops, independent studies and other opportunities to apply your campus learning experiences. If you excel, you may be eligible to join the department’s honor society, Lambda Pi Eta.
Student media The Oswegonian, WTOP-TV and WNYO-FM, as well as on-campus National Public Radio affiliate WRVO, provide opportunities to put your communication skills into action through performance, promotion and running social media accounts.

Subjects focus on American, African, Asian, European, Latin American and Middle Eastern history; social, intellectual, military and political history; and gender and ethnic studies. Pursue opportunities to work with our skilled and helpful faculty on individual research projects. Join our History Club. You can choose to study and investigate a number of specialization areas including cellular and molecular, organismal and systematic, genetic and developmental, or environmental and population biology. Careful selection of electives, research courses, projects and internships can prepare you for particular careers, graduate studies and/or training at professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine).

Master of Science in School Psychology
The program prepares graduates to work with children in schools to provide comprehensive behavioral and mental health services, including diagnostic assessment, academic and behavioral interventions, consultation to promote both individual and school-wide learning, and school-based counseling.
We have designed our curriculum to align with the National Association of School Psychologists' training standards, and have enjoyed consistent accreditation since the program's inception. With our accreditation, graduates are eligible to apply to become a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Consistent with these training standards, students will receive training from faculty who have extensive experience working in a wide range of educational settings, from K-12 public schools to private schools to diagnostic clinics. In addition, students will have the opportunity to engage with faculty from our school counseling and mental health counseling programs to strengthen your ability to support the needs of all learners.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience. Oswego's physics program offers many hands-on opportunities in the Shineman Center through many labs and a working planetarium — as well as through sought-after internships and chances to study abroad.
Oswego offers top-notch internships, co-op opportunities and connections, most notably immersive 10-week internships at NASA's CalTech Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Participate hands-on in faculty research as part of your senior capstone experience in undergraduate research.
Physics facilities include our planetarium, computational laboratory, condensed matter physics laboratory, nanotechnology laboratory, thin films laboratory and nuclear instrumentation detectors lab, and an outdoor observatory.

Offered jointly by the Atmospheric and Geological Sciences Department and Chemistry Department, this program covers topics ranging from the chemical makeup of Venus to the search for oil on Earth. Courses cover general, historical and structural geology; mineralogy; petrology; and physical chemistry.
You can perform research with professors around the country, or learn firsthand about field-based research and much more in our Geology Field Program.
Facilities include four full-sized laboratories, a seismograph for recording worldwide earthquakes and a geology computer lab in the Shineman Center.

You may choose a concentration in global politics and governance, global political economy, global culture or area studies. Core courses encompass international and global events, organizations, structures and processes — as well as the global economy, global media and increasing worldwide cultural interconnectedness. During the senior year, you will choose either a capstone seminar in your concentration or a relevant internship in an international area. In consultation with an adviser, you can develop a more directed program of study — such as a focus on development in the Third World or on globalism.
Apply to live in the Hart Hall Global Living and Learning Center to become part of a unique community of students and faculty with a deep interest in global affairs. You’ll take at least 6 credit hours of a foreign language at the intermediate level, enhancing your ability to communicate internationally. In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.
A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour, and in the friendly department’s foyer. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

Our program is accredited by the American Chemical Society and is ranked in the top three in the number of certified degrees award in New York. Graduates of SUNY Oswego’s chemistry programs have gone on to study at prestigious graduate schools, and have received national recognition as chemists, researchers and educators. Outstanding labs in the Shineman Center, professors who are knowledgeable yet student-focused, active student organizations and internships at home and overseas provide a first-class chemistry experience.
Join the student affiliate of the American Chemical Society, which offers free tutoring and other services, and has often been cited as one of the most outstanding in the country. Excel and you may qualify for the chemistry honors program, which emphasizes independent study and research, or even the national honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi. You can present your work at Sigma Xi and other conferences. A large network of internships and co-op opportunities are among the ingredients for future success.
Facilities and equipment in the Shineman Center include a scanning electron microscope, 300 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, scintillation counter, analytical chromatographs, preparative gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer and many computing facilities.
