Requirements allow substantial freedom for students both in designing individual programs within economics and in balancing the programs with subjects in other disciplines. Choose from a wide variety of economics courses, including relatively unique offerings such as American economic history, the economics of gender and baseball economics. Excel and you may qualify for our honors program, which includes a course in econometrics and an advanced independent study.

Take advantage of internships: Oswego students have interned at major banks and investment institutions, and worked as teaching assistants and peer tutors. Participate in national and regional competitions such as the College Fed Challenge, which encourages students to learn more about the U.S. macro economy and the Federal Reserve System. Our Enactus student organization designs educational projects to help developing countries better understand free-enterprise principles. Oswego hosts a very active Society for Human Resource Management club that offers workshops to boost your professional preparation, invites speakers, provides networking opportunities and regularly excels in national case competitions. Apply what you’ve learned to real-world situations as you examine current HR problems during your capstone HRM course. Apply for a study abroad program in Europe, Australia or mainland China — or one of the internships or co-op opportunities available at the local, national and international levels.

The on-campus Human Resource Management Center offers research and publishing opportunities, visiting speakers, workshops and closer connections with faculty and alumni.

Our flexible curriculum gives you the opportunity to combine your passions with the foundational coursework. This built-in adaptability helps you focus on what you need to succeed, based on your background. 

Our program provides a foundation in the principles of geology and its related sciences with four laboratories, a seismograph and field experiences. A newer track on environmental earth sciences integrates a set of cross-disciplinary environmental science experiences from biological sciences, chemistry, meteorology and physics.

Oswego is ideally located for field studies of Lake Ontario, carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower Paleozoic age, Precambrian rocks of the Adirondacks, Pleistocene glacial features and the pollution of rivers and ground waters. Field trips may include southeastern Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay, Ithaca, Whitaker State Park, and the Catskill Mountains.

You also can perform research with professors around the country, or learn firsthand about field-based research and much more in our Geology Field Program. Build your resume through internships and co-op opportunities, and complete an independent research project under the direction of a faculty adviser. Study geology abroad through through regular coursework or research placements.

In our English program in literary studies, you'll cultivate valuable skills in writing and critical thinking while exploring literary works by diverse writers. Courses stress the importance of critical reading, writing and research to provide you with a background suitable for many kinds of careers. The demand for the many fields in human services and technology where a psychology degree can prove beneficial continues to increase. Even as an undergraduate, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate closely with faculty members on research projects in many areas of psychology — from applied, clinical, cognitive and counseling to neuroscience, quantitative research methods and more.

Work with faculty on many research opportunities in the field. Get involved in service-learning experiences and serve as a research assistant or teaching assistant. Join the Psychology Club, which sponsors trips and speaker series. Gain valuable experience as a volunteer in the Peer Advisement and Career Awareness Center. Numerous laboratories include a large computer facility that enables you to examine how people interface with technology. Our internationally renowned Center for Neurobehavioral Effects of Environmental Toxins, investigating the effects of exposure to environmental pollutants on cognitive and behavioral development, offers opportunities for talented and highly motivated undergraduates to participate in ongoing research projects.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.
