B.S. in Finance provides students with a broad-based understanding of the principles that govern financial institutions and markets, and the strategies they employ to maximize investor returns while minimizing risk. The program develops students' professional competencies as financial executives and prepares them for careers in corporate finance, investment banking, international finance security, analysis brokerage and securities trading, and portfolio management. Recent LIU Brooklyn graduates are working at the New York Stock Exchange, Quick & Reilly, Goldman Sachs and other prominent financial institutions.

This program is supported by a cutting-edge learning and design center in partnership with Fortune 500 Engineering Company, Dassault Systems (see https://www.3ds.com). This center will provide students with the opportunity to develop research projects and prototypes with the same big data and artificial intelligence platforms used in cutting-edge industry applications.

The Sports Management program trains students in all aspects of sports management and places them at the doorstep of the most successful and lucrative businesses in the sports world. The B.S in Biochemistry focused on the important interface between biology and chemistry. The degree emphasizes advanced experimental and theoretical education in both the biological and chemical sciences, which serves as a foundation for a variety of career paths, including advanced training in biology, chemistry or biochemistry; molecular biology; research, industry, and medical school.

B.S. in Marketing prepares students for professional careers in a wide variety of marketing functions within business and not-for-profit organizations. Marketing involves the study of new product development, marketing research, analysis of distribution systems, determination of pricing policies, promotion of products and ideas, business relationships, and predictions of consumer behavior.

As a marketing major, you will develop the creative, analytical and communication skills necessary to succeed in the field. You also will develop competencies in product and service promotion, distribution, buyer behavior and market research. Marketing courses focus on integrating theory and practical applications through the use of cases, computer simulations, and through hands-on field projects.

Recent graduates are pursuing marketing careers at companies such as Sony Music, Grey Advertising and Saatchi & Saatchi.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Technology, Entrepreneurship and Production puts students inside the recording studio and prepares them for a behind-the-scenes careers in the music industry. Students will develop exceptional competency in all aspects of the music making process.

New York City is the birthplace of some of the world’s most iconic artists as well as companies pioneering the $20 billion global music industry. Program graduates will have the tools to build successful careers in creative entrepreneurship, venue management, distribution, performance, songwriting, engineering and production.

The program will feature an experiential learning approach, grounded in the real world of music production and marketing, and follow a learning cohort model that places peer collaboration at the center of the educational experience. The program was founded around four pillars vital to the success of the modern musician:

The Master of Public Health (M.P.H) is a professional degree program for individuals seeking training and experience in applied public health. The 42-credit program has strong working relationships with community organizations and health care providers as well as with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. It answers a growing demand for skilled public health professionals and leads to diverse and rewarding career opportunities. Candidates interested in enrolling in the program must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and must fulfill the academic criteria for admission.

Public health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of communities (families, neighborhoods, groups of people) and the population as a whole. Every day, millions of people suffer from preventable injuries, illnesses, and chronic diseases resulting in impaired quality of life and premature death. The goal of Public Health professionals is to help prevent disease, disability, and premature death. The vision of the Public Health movement is health for all and healthy people in healthy communities. Teams of Public Health professionals from a variety of backgrounds use strategies such as: policy, system/service, and built-environment changes, education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research.

The mission of the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Long Island University is to educate and train professional social work practitioners who are well grounded in the profession’s history, purpose, and philosophy and who can competently and effectively work with diverse populations of clients and client systems in the richness of the New York City and beyond. Integral to competent practice is the ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration. Graduates of our MSW program are prepared to engage in practice that is informed by a diverse body of theories and knowledge, social work values, and professional social work skills.

Our MSW program provides a step-wise progression to support student understanding of generalist and specialized social work practice. The generalist practice curriculum includes content in the foundation areas of social work: policy, practice, human behavior, research, diversity, professional values, and promotion of social justice, and applied through a field education experience.

The advanced year curriculum deepens the student’s understanding and demonstrated mastery of psychosocial assessment, administrative theory and practice, and diversity sensitive practice. Students select a specific area of concentration for specialized education in a particular area of practice. Students will gain practical experience in sports writing and reporting; promotion of sports teams, events and products; performing as a play-by-play announcer or program host; and production of sports content for traditional, online and social media. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with LIU’s robust alumni network, which includes notable sports reporters, publicists and experts in New York City and beyond. Graduates of the program will be ready for careers in sports broadcasting, sports management, or sports information.

The Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance provides students with a full range of resources to develop their talent and prepare for a music career. Aspiring performers sharpen their aural skills, study the roots of musical theory, delve into the technical aspects of songwriting and vocal dictation, while preparing for a professional career in the music industry.
