But political decisions aren’t just about who we vote for; the choices we make as individuals – about our schools and our environment, about the movies we watch and the music we listen to – are inherently political.

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and the Bachelor of Arts in International Relations degree programs offered by the Department of Political Science are the ideal opportunity for students looking to become more informed about the political reality of the world around them and enter the job market with the outstanding qualifications necessary to a career path in top tier corporate and public sector institutions.

Students majoring in political science must complete a 30-credit course of study. The subfields of political science include American politics, political philosophy, comparative politics, international relations, and a host of related fields such as policy studies, political geography, political economy, popular culture and the media, and studies of particular countries or regions. There is also considerable room for student choice within the major, as the department offers ample opportunities for independent study, honors theses, and internships. Students may also earn a 15-credit minor in Political Science.

Students majoring in international relations must complete the 36-credit course of study in courses that address a broad spectrum of cutting edge issues in contemporary global diplomacy and security, including international law and human rights, international political economy, geopolitics, regimes and institutions, the environment and technology, non-state actors, and regional studies that focus on the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Credits for internships in international relations, including internships abroad, with the United Nations, and in Washington, D.C., may be counted toward the major upon prior approval by the International Relations Program.

The B.S in Biochemistry focused on the important interface between biology and chemistry. The degree emphasizes advanced experimental and theoretical education in both the biological and chemical sciences, which serves as a foundation for a variety of career paths, including advanced training in biology, chemistry or biochemistry; molecular biology; research, industry, and medical school.

Biochemistry majors are encouraged to develop specific career objectives while pursuing undergraduate studies. Departmental advisers assist students in exploring career possibilities and in devising a personalized plan of study that will best prepare them for their career goals.

The program is registered by the New York State Department of Education. Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology that satisfies the academic and professional requirements specified by ASHA for the CCC-SLP, and are eligible to apply for licensure in SLP by the New York State Department of Education's Office of the Professions. Students who wish to satisfy the New York State Education Office of Teaching requirements for Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) may also prepare for this certification as part of their graduate program. Students demonstrating proficiency (i.e., speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in a language other than English may further prepare for a certificate in Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities with a Bilingual Extension. The 36 to 63-credit Master’s of Business Administration (number of credits is based on your undergraduate coursework) provides the knowledge base and skills that enable professionals to become leaders in business by offering a comprehensive program which meets the needs of an ever-changing, global business environment. The program is offered on a part-time basis during the evenings and weekends with 15- and 7-week semesters, to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals who are interested in advancing their careers. As a marketing major, you will develop the creative, analytical and communication skills necessary to succeed in the field. You also will develop competencies in product and service promotion, distribution, buyer behavior and market research. Marketing courses focus on integrating theory and practical applications through the use of cases, computer simulations, and through hands-on field projects.

Recent graduates are pursuing marketing careers at companies such as Sony Music, Grey Advertising and Saatchi & Saatchi.

The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies curriculum integrates classroom learning with real-world experience from day one, emphasizing development of global leadership skills. Central to the program are requirements that students reside in Costa Rica, Spain, Italy, China, Australia, and a New York-based final capstone semester, where students complete their senior thesis. From these countries, they will travel to Panama, Nicaragua, Morocco, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Turkey, India, Thailand, and Bali. LIU Global students typically complete at least four internships during their study.

B.S. in Entrepreneurship teaches students how to prepare and execute a comprehensive strategy for launching a new venture. The venture can be in any organizational context – large or small, new or existing, non-profit or for profit. The entrepreneurial process of value creation through innovation remains the same regardless of the context or the ultimate goal. Although people often assume that the focus of entrepreneurship is on starting for-profit businesses, learning the entrepreneurial process will help you to think more strategically in all of your endeavors.

The best way to understand the entrepreneurial process is to take a hands-on, experiential approach. In this major, students will interact extensively with the business community both inside and outside the classroom and produce a plan that is both defensible to potential investors and actionable in the real world.

This program is supported by a cutting-edge learning and design center in partnership with Fortune 500 Engineering Company, Dassault Systems (see https://www.3ds.com). This center will provide students with the opportunity to develop research projects and prototypes with the same big data and artificial intelligence platforms used in cutting-edge industry applications.

Physician assistants (PAs) provide medical care to patients under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. In practice, PAs perform a large percentage of the same care patients receive when they visit a doctor, including taking histories, performing physical exams, ordering labs and diagnostic studies, making initial diagnoses and formulating treatment plans, prescribing medication, performing procedures, and assisting in surgery. PAs may specialize in any area of medicine or surgery and enjoy lateral mobility, meaning that they may move from specialty to specialty without additional formal training.

LIU Brooklyn's Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program was the first in the region to be approved by the New York State Education Department. Successful completion of the program enables the candidate to register as a physician assistant and to sit for the National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
