Our music department is collaborative yet competitive, pushing you to grow as a musician and composer.

We’re one of a few undergraduate-only institutions to offer a music composition degree program. It’s small and selective, giving you plenty of chances to work one-on-one with faculty who are experienced educators and active performers.

In our program, you’ll learn to understand your consumers and evaluate competitors, make decisions on product development and determine distribution strategies. You’ll have a solid foundation of marketing basics, including market research, market segmentation, consumer behavior, digital marketing, pricing strategies and marketing communications.

From your very first semester, you’ll get important hands-on experience. In Global Business Perspectives, you’ll work on a consulting project to develop recommendations to improve the profitability of a major corporation, such as Netflix, Burberry or Under Armour. Then you’ll pitch your plan to real-life business executives.

Your education won’t just take place on campus — or even within the United States. You will go places around the world. Master the Spanish language and immerse yourself in the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

We’re one of the only universities that requires semester-long study abroad for language majors. Connect with native Spanish speakers in Valencia, Spain; Heredia, Costa Rica; Merida, Mexico; or Havana, Cuba — to name a few.

While abroad, you’ll live with host families, do internships in fields such as health and grant-writing, and take courses in a broad array of disciplines. You will also travel and make new, long-lasting friendships.

When you return to Susquehanna, you’ll bring back firsthand knowledge of the cultures you’ve experienced and a grasp of the Spanish language only achieved through immersion!

• Connect with Spanish-speakers on campus! Take courses on the literatures, cultures and histories of Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Study Spanish translation, and get involved with activities outside of the classroom.
• Come to our Latinx Initiative, which promotes the understanding of Latino cultures through exhibits, film, presentations, workshops and speakers.
• Join in conversation tables with Fulbright Fellows from Spain and Latin America.

A Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction (M.Ed.) degree from Susquehanna will make you a better teacher by deepening your understanding of teaching and learning. In as few as five semesters (34 semester hours), you’ll become a more productive, creative, and reflective educational leader.

With classes in curriculum design, research methods, critical media literacy, and inclusive classroom strategies, you’ll be prepared to lead students and be a resource to peers. You’ll be paired with professors based on your research and content interests, so your studies will have the most applicable impact on your teaching.

From your first semester, you can take advantage of opportunities to perform in our many choral, instrumental, opera and chamber music ensembles. You can perform in our weekly department recitals, and you’ll give a solo recital in both your junior and senior years. With no graduate students, the focus and attention is on you!

Off stage, you’ll get a thorough education in music theory and history, including repertoire and pedagogy classes for your instrument from professors who are experienced educators and active performers.

Our finest venue for live music, Stretansky Concert Hall, seats 320 and is used for everything from student recitals to fully staged opera performances with orchestra. The acoustics are amazing.

Piece together visual clues in images, buildings and objects to shed light on the human experience past and present with faculty dedicated to your intellectual development.

You’ll debate art theory and criticism, while developing keen skills in visual analysis — an invaluable tool in our increasingly image-driven world.

Travel to major museums in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City, or visit our own Lore Degenstein Gallery to carefully study works of art from various times and places.

Popular classes embrace the interdisciplinary nature of art history, examining art through the lenses of diversity, gender and politics. Art history also pairs well with a major or minor in anything from anthropology to communications to foreign language.

Explore society at every level — small groups, subcultures, cultures, organizations and institutions — and study how people interact.

When you study sociology here, you’ll learn to think critically about how race, class, gender, sexuality, law, culture, social media, social movements and the state impact individual, lived experience.

Develop useful and competitive skills

Studying sociology builds critical thinking skills and the ability to examine complex questions — skills valued by employers in all fields. You’ll learn there are multiple ways to approach any given problem.

You will design research projects, analyze data and identify useful ways to investigate questions about public policy, public health, community development, globalization, education and the law.

Religion touches nearly every aspect of our world and society — literature, politics, current events, history, personal interactions and more.

Contemplate the ultimate questions, think critically and creatively about world religions, and analyze religious texts from various perspectives. You’ll be challenged to become a more compassionate, empathetic and self-aware global citizen.

Interdisciplinary approach

One of our most popular classes, Being Awesome at Life, examines the definition of a good life across cultures and throughout history. Science and Religion take a serious look at scientific and religious claims to find overlaps of agreement.

Other classes cover major world religions and how they relate to fields like ethics, archaeology, philosophy and environmental studies. Adding one of our interdisciplinary minors, like leadership and diversity studies, helps you gain a better understanding of important topics in today’s world.
