Political science graduates follow a variety of career paths. For some, our political science major is a stepping stone for law or graduate school. Majoring in political science sets the stage for careers in areas such as:

The major objective of the program is to provide you with exposure to the many areas of study within the political science realm so that you are prepared to make knowledgeable decisions regarding future career and academic choices. You may also choose to minor in either political science or public administration.

You will have the opportunity to gain further specialization in one of the areas listed above through advanced course work and directed study with a political science instructor. Our program has an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in many diverse areas of political science including business, law, risk management, real estate and civil rights. Many students also choose to develop an individualized program by double-majoring with a complimenting area of study such as business, criminal justice and pre-law. Political science is also offered as a minor.

A major in wellness and health promotion consists of an interdisciplinary program of study in which students will implement health assessments and wellness programs during internships. The degree endeavors to promote scholarly inquiry and cultivate professionals capable of assisting others in developing self-responsibility for their own health and wellness through healthy, active lifestyles. Completion of this degree prepares students for employment in corporate, clinical, or community wellness settings or for the pursuit of graduate study.

Promoting a Healthier Lifestyle
There is a growing need for health professionals who can provide wellness information and exercise instruction to promote a healthier lifestyle. Additionally, there is a need for trained exercise professionals to accommodate the growing number of both adults and children participating in sports and exercise programs.

Education of wellness and exercise is also necessary to teach employees in the workplace the relationship between activity, diet and health and to demonstrate how this can be changed to encourage physical wellness. Health promotion and wellness program supervision is necessary to ensure that injury does not develop and exercise programs are introduced safely.

Our program provides students with the medical knowledge, technical skills, and experience in a variety of didactic and clinical settings necessary for them to become ethical, competent, and compassionate health care providers as part of a health care team.

Few majors provide you with more highly marketable skills for a variety of careers than the English major. The creative and critical thinking skills that you learn as an English major are highly valued in today's fast-paced and competitive market.

The English program provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in many diverse areas of education, public relations, communications, law, and marketing.  As an English major, you will develop skills to become a critical reader, writer, and thinker through the study of diverse literary genres, writing strategies, and research skills.

Creative Writing
The creative writing emphasis focuses on the development and writing of original works and promotes opportunity for self-expression, emphasizing the relationship between writer and audience, while also exposing students to the professional world of publishing.

Findlay's children's book illustration major provides a curriculum focused on skills specific to the field of illustration such as drawing, painting, printmaking, design and typography while also integrating coursework in children's literature.  Students work closely with art faculty and the Mazza Museum staff to gain knowledge of the publishing industry and develop their skills in sequential storytelling.

Program Highlights

• Students in the children's book illustration major enjoy access to the Mazza Museum, the most diverse collection of original artwork by children's book illustrators in the world. Students attend annual Mazza conferences, interact with nationally recognized award-winning illustrators, complete internships with the museum, and volunteer with monthly educational events.
• The Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery provides opportunities for art management students to participate in the organization, preparation, and installation of shows. The Lea Gallery presents eight to ten exhibitions throughout the year, including works by students, faculty, and regional and national artists.  Students engage with exhibiting artists through gallery talks, classroom demonstrations, and public presentations.
• Children's book illustration majors have the opportunity to visit nationally-recognized museums and galleries through study trips abroad, annual art program trips to New York City and Chicago, and class trips to museums such as the Toledo Museum of Art and the Detroit Institute of Art.

Learn about the relationship between computers and mathematics

An emphasis in mathematics prepares students for careers as computer scientists, mathematical programmers or software engineers. Graduates will serve as the inventors, theorists and researchers that create and troubleshoot new computer technologies and applications. They can also design new programming languages, develop virtual reality environments and advance ideas towards the relationship between computer technologies and humanity.

To complete a Computer Science degree with a Mathematics Emphasis you must complete six mathematics emphasis courses in addition to the computer science core courses.

Public relations professionals manage an organization’s most valuable assets - reputation and relationships.

With a degree in public relations from the University of Findlay you will be prepared work in corporations, PR agencies, nonprofit organizations or the government. The Master of Occupational Therapy Weekend Program is a three-year program that consists of two and a half years of coursework and six months of full-time fieldwork. A new cohort begins each summer in June. The weekend program is intended for the adult learner who has completed a bachelor's degree. It is preferred, but not necessary, that a candidate has healthcare experience.
