The Bachelor of Music in Composition for New Media balances established coursework in musicianship, performance, and liberal arts with hands-on contemporary training in music and sound composition for all facets of commercial and artistic media. Students in this program compose, mix, design, and arrange music and sound assets for movies, web, television, animation, mobile and educational platforms, games, artistic installations, advertising, industrial media, interactive live performance, Virtual Reality systems and related outlets.

Like all music major programs at UMass Lowell, this program requires:

• An entrance audition on an instrument or voice,
• The submission of a portfolio of scores/recordings/creative work, which consists of three media excerpts around 90 seconds each of original compositions, with supplemental materials, which may include documentation, scores, etc. as needed.

Choose the MPH Healthcare Management option if you want to learn the conceptual, organizational, personnel and financial skills required to become an effective and compassionate public health manager.

Graduates of the program gain an advanced education in healthcare finance, law and ethics in healthcare, operations analysis and quality improvement, healthcare management and healthcare information systems. You’ll be prepared to assume leadership positions in the complex healthcare industry, especially those industries that contribute to the public health of communities and populations.

The Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Autism Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell adopts the scientist-practitioner model to prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need to enter both applied professional and research positions, and be well-prepared for future matriculation into doctoral programs. Through required and elective coursework, fieldwork experience, and available research opportunities, students are exposed to a wide range of scientific perspectives within Psychology.

The UMass Lowell biology master's program fosters critical thinking and develops skills needed for independent laboratory study. This is accomplished, in part, by offering advanced lecture, seminar and laboratory courses.

The Department of Biological Sciences offers four options for the Master of Science in Biological Science:

• General Option offers flexibility so students can create a program that fits their educational and employment goals.
• Biotechnology Option focuses on training essential to employment in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
• Bioinformatics Option prepares students for academic and industry positions by providing interdisciplinary coursework emphasizing computational analysis and interpretation of biological datasets.

The BS in EE track provides a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of electrical engineering that would allow a graduate to function effectively in industry or continue on to graduate school. Students seeking admission into the BS Eng in EE program should be familiar with the admission and retention requirements of the College of Engineering – refer to the Office of Admissions.

As a history major at UMass Lowell, you will be trained to think and write critically about history. Department alumni have careers in a wide array of fields including teaching, law, government service, business and research. More than half our graduates go on to graduate school in history, education and other fields.

The Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology Graduate Program is offered jointly by the University of Massachusetts campuses at Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Worcester. The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary, team approach in course/seminars, presentations, laboratory rotations, and research projects.

Students who have received a wide range of bachelor degrees with strong quantitative skills in engineering/physical science, life/clinical science and related backgrounds are candidates for the program. Graduate students come from a variety of backgrounds including biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering plastics engineering, and polymer science.

Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology is offered. This non-thesis program prepares students for a professional career and may be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. The M.S. program includes 16 credits of core courses, a minimum of 12 credits of specialization courses and a three credit capstone research project course incorporating course knowledge and experimental skills into a brief but detailed experimental study. For the minimum 12 credits of specialization, students are recommended to select a Specialization area (click here to learn more about Specialization areas) that will earn them a Graduate Certificate in that area as part of their M.S. degree.  Specializing in an area allows students the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge base in an area of specific interest to them. If students are not interested in specializing in a certain area, they may take courses across any of the Specializations.

Completion of the chemistry curriculum provides preparation for all areas of the chemical profession, as well as for graduate study in chemistry, dentistry, medicine, patent law, and teaching. Students completing the B.S. requirements graduate with a degree certified as being in a program approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society.

The major typically includes 56-60 credits in chemistry courses and 26-30 credits in supporting science and mathematics courses. In addition, university/college guidelines for core curriculum/distribution requirements must be fulfilled.
